A simple screening made all the difference. đź’™

When Maureen Morgan put off a colonoscopy, she chose an at-home test instead—one small step that ultimately saved her life.

After the test revealed early concerns, Maureen was referred to Intermountain Health Good Samaritan Hospital, where her care team quickly took action. Using the advanced da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, surgeons were able to remove her cancer with a minimally invasive approach—helping reduce pain and support a faster recovery.

Today, Maureen is back to doing what she loves—spending time with her family, staying active, and sharing her story to help others.

Her message is simple: don’t wait.

Colon cancer often has no symptoms in its early stages, but screening can catch it early—when it’s most treatable. Whether it’s an at-home test or a colonoscopy, taking that first step could save your life.

✔️ Screening is recommended starting at age 45

This Colon Cancer Awareness Month, make your health a priority.

During Women’s History Month, we’re proud to honor the women whose vision helped shape health care in our communities.

In the late 1800s, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth brought compassionate care to Colorado. Pioneering leaders like Mother Xavier Ross, Sr. Pancratia Bonfils, and Sr. Praxedes Carty helped establish hospitals that served growing communities and ensured people had access to care when they needed it most.

Decades later, as Denver’s health care needs continued to grow, sisters including Sr. Mary Pierre, Sr. Mary Asella, and Sr. Mary Keiran helped lead the planning for a new Saint Joseph Hospital campus in 1959. The hospital—known for its signature radial towers—opened in 1961 and continued the Sisters’ mission of caring for the community.

More than a century later, their legacy lives on across Intermountain Health hospitals along the Front Range. Every day, our caregivers carry forward the mission the Sisters set in motion: caring for people with compassion, dignity, and respect.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate the generations of women whose courage and leadership helped build the foundation for the care we provide today. 💙

Students from Japan recently spent time learning alongside caregivers at Good Samaritan Hospital. 🇯🇵💙

This marks the 10th year that students from 朝日大学 - Asahi University have visited Good Samaritan Hospital as part of their trip to Colorado. During their two-day visit, the group participated in tours, shadowing experiences, and hands-on learning opportunities with our teams.

The visit was coordinated by Leigh Milhorn, Manager of Nursing Professional Development, with support from Emiko Graham, a retired Good Samaritan RN who served as the group’s translator.

One highlight of the visit was seeing our high-fidelity simulation technology, which allows caregivers to practice responding to high-risk medical situations in a safe learning environment. The students shared that simulation training resonated deeply with them, helping reduce anxiety around safety events while building confidence and preparedness.

We’re honored to continue this long-standing connection with Asahi University and to welcome future healthcare leaders from around the world to Good Samaritan Hospital. 🌎

She also talks about the rise in diagnoses among younger adults and why early detection can truly save lives.

Most importantly, the message is hopeful: when colon cancer is caught early, it’s highly treatable.

Music has a way of making a place feel a little brighter. 🎶

At Good Samaritan Hospital, high school volunteer Aanshi Shah shares her talent by playing the piano in the lobby, bringing moments of calm and comfort to patients, families, and caregivers passing through.

The daughter of one of our physicians, Aanshi spends time volunteering and filling the space with beautiful music—sometimes even performing a piece she composed herself—turning an ordinary hospital moment into something uplifting. For many visitors, her music offers a peaceful pause during what can be a stressful day.

We’re so grateful for volunteers like Aanshi who help make Good Samaritan such a welcoming place for our community. 💙

The L.O.V.E. (Living Our Values Everyday) Award recognizes caregivers who go above and beyond to make a difference for patients—and Laurel York, an Echo Tech at Good Samaritan Hospital, did exactly that.

When Laurel was called in on her day off to perform an echocardiogram for a patient recovering in the ICU after a suspected stroke, she trusted her 21 years of experience and recognized that a bubble test was needed, even though it wasn’t originally ordered. After connecting with the cardiologist to add the test, it led to the diagnosis of an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD)—a hole in the patient’s heart that had gone undetected for decades.

The patient shared that Laurel was cheerful, engaging, and compassionate, taking time to explain the procedure and help them feel at ease during a stressful moment.

Through her clinical expertise, empathy, and initiative, Laurel helped turn a medical emergency into a life-changing diagnosis and a path toward better long-term health. đź’™

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the women whose leadership and compassion shape the future of healthcare.

Ann Gantzer, Chief Nursing Officer at Good Samaritan Hospital, has spent 43 years in nursing, beginning her career in critical care and growing into a leader who supports and empowers caregivers across the hospital.

For Ann, nursing is more than a profession — it’s a calling for people who lead with empathy and compassion.

“If you’re a caring and empathetic person, nursing allows you to be that person not only when you’re not working, but also when you are.”

Inspired by trailblazers like Florence Nightingale, Ann believes nursing is rooted in a powerful history while continuing to evolve for the future.

Today, we celebrate Ann and the countless women in healthcare who care, lead, innovate, and inspire every day.

💜 Happy International Women’s Day.
