Were it not for a routine mammogram, Myra wouldn’t be here to share this message.

Mammograms can identify breast cancer years before symptoms develop, and they’re far superior to self-exams. About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer over the course of a lifetime, and early detection is key for survival.

Schedule your mammogram today if you’re due. Visit https://anmed.org/services/breast-health/mammography-imaging/schedule-north-campus or call 1-864-512-2255. Ask about financial assistance for the uninsured and others in need.

To make things easier and better reach everyone throughout our community, our mobile mammography bus makes rounds year-round. To learn more, visit https://anmed.org/services/breast-health/mammography/mobile-mammography.

Ma*****na gummies disguised as candy, Friday night trick-or-treating on dark streets and costumes that limit vision are among hazards, but there are simple ways to protect children. We asked our ace pediatricians at AnMed Pediatrics - Piedmont what they do with their own children.

Congratulations to Katy, a nurse on our Home Health team, who’s won our Gold Standard Award for nursing, our highest internal recognition for professional nurses. The award is chosen by the AnMed Nursing Professional Development Council to honor those who exemplify excellence in clinical practice, leadership, compassion and professionalism within their units and across the system.

Katy’s leadership, compassion and innovation have made a lasting impact on patients and her team. Along with a colleague, she played a key role in establishing the AnMed Home Health Fund, which helps patients with critical needs like medications and utilities. She personally paid a power bill for a patient during the summer to ensure their safety.

Katy continues to volunteer her time, mentor new nurses and uplift her unit through acts of kindness and advocacy. After hours recently Katy assisted another nurse in arranging transportation for a patient following an outpatient procedure to ensure the patient could safely get home.

Emotions were intense and raw recently when the wife of a patient who was fit only for comfort care brought their two young children to see him in our neuroscience intensive care unit. The children were crying for their father, and their mother was trying to console them.

Mallory, a teammate in our NSICU, went to the gift shop and bought the children some candy and Beanie Babies to provide whatever degree of appropriate distraction that seemed possible. The tokens and her gesture of kindness went a long way with both children, for a moment at least.

Alongside Jeremy on our Resource Team, Mallory has been named one of our .

Jeremy overheard a conversation recently about a patient who was having trouble accessing information needed to secure placement at discharge. The patient could not complete her Medicaid application because she couldn’t obtain records through mobile banking due to a broken phone.

She had no family to assist her.

So Jeremy stepped up. He provided a functional old phone of his own that very day for the women to keep. That enabled the woman to secure the services she was eligible for and be discharged to and appropriate setting.
