Our services are free. ABOUT SERVE & PROTECT

VISION
As a former Detective and Military Police Officer, Robert Michaels founded Serve & Protect to address the trauma experienced by those in public safety – police, fire, dispatch, corrections, and their families. A key motivator was the fact that an alarming number in public safety: officers, fire / ems, and corrections professionals die by suicide

. To that end our vision was, and has remained, to serve public safety professionals and their families who struggle with emotional wounds expressed in symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Injury. In April 2020, our vision was expanded to open a new division to serve medical providers – nurses, doctors, and others on the professional level. Nurses and doctors also have a high rate of suicide, exacerbated by the COVID crisis. MISSION
In fulfillment of our vision, Serve & Protect was launched by Michaels in February 2011 as a 501©(3) whose mission is education about emotional wellness and trauma, reinforced by their facilitation of trauma informed services for public safety professionals and their families with emotional wounds nationwide. The outworking of our mission is as follows:
TRAUMA SERVICES FACILITATION
• To locate and facilitate trauma services for public safety professionals with PTSD symptoms, addictions, or both.
• Whether residential care or trauma therapists and related services, Serve & Protect works on behalf of the public safety professional to find the right solutions for their real problems. Serve & Protect facilitates all trauma therapist placements.
• Facilitation of services trauma includes locating a therapist who takes the callers insurance, is located reasonably near, is a trauma informed specialist, and is experienced withthis population. o This may also entail locating equine therapy or service dogs

WHEN WE NEED EMERGENCY SERVICES WE CALL 911 - WHEN PUBLIC SAFETY OR MEDICAL PROVIDERS NEEDS EMOTIONAL HELP, WE ARE THEIR 911. WE ARE LIKE AN EMOTIONAL M.A.S.H. UNIT. WHO ARE WE? Serve & Protect is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation based in Brentwood TN, reaching Internationally. Serve & Protect was founded by former MP and Norfolk Police Detective Robert Michaels, who also serves as a Chaplain for the Williamson County FOP, Brentwood Fire, and a Federal Agency. We have a team of peer advocates serving targeted segments of the populations we serve - Spouses, Chaplains, and Peer to Peer. WHY DO WE EXIST? Su***de in public safety and healthcare is a significant concern. In law enforcement, fire, and corrections, more die by su***de than in the line of duty. Su***de in healthcare is considerably above typical averages. We give our clients iron clad confidentiality and personal attention. We believe that both physical health and mental health are core elements to serving those who sacrifice for us daily. HOW ARE WE UNIQUE? Serve & Protect is dedicated to men and women who serve, which includes their families. We are the only independent resource serving these populations that provides a threefold scope of service designed to serve the individual needs of professionals and families in crisis through: !
