We’re grateful for our church partner, Boonsboro United Methodist Church, for providing a meal for our foster families during Friday’s Lynchburg support group.

A special thank you to Rev. Jeongseung Lee for personally delivering the meal and for the care and kindness he shared with our families.

To our foster families, we hope you felt supported and appreciated. And to our community, thank you for continuing to show up in meaningful ways. Your support makes a real difference!

“We’ll do whatever it takes to make things work.”

As we continue to recognize National Social Work Month, that mindset shows up in everything Natalie-Rose Ross, MSW, brings to her role at Shineforth’s Richmond Regional Center.

As the first point of contact for many families, Natalie helps guide them through intake for Treatment Foster Care and community-based services, making meaningful connections from the very beginning. “I play matchmaker,” she shared, describing the joy of helping families find the right support.

Over the past three years, her role has continued to grow, from coordinating intake to supporting home studies, training families, and contributing to statewide efforts.

Her path to social work felt natural. “It was the only thing that made sense to me,” she said, after discovering her passion for social justice and child welfare during her time at JMU.

Thank you, Natalie, for doing whatever it takes to make things work.

National Social Work Month is a time to recognize the people who work tirelessly to support children, families, and communities. Today, we’re highlighting Alexis Jackson, LCSW, whose ten years of service at Shineforth have helped create meaningful change in the lives of countless youth and families.

For Alexis, the motivation comes from knowing the work matters, even when the impact is not always immediately visible. “I’m making a difference, even if I don’t always see it,” she shared. Moments like Commencement, when youth graduate from our CFHC program, serve as powerful reminders of the progress youth and families can make.

Over the past decade, Alexis has served Shineforth in several roles, from Youth Counselor to Cottage Manager, and now as a Therapist at our Child & Family Healing Center, where she works directly with youth and their loved ones through individual, group, and family therapy each week.

Recently, Alexis earned her Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential and continues to grow professionally as she pursues additional training in adoption competency and play therapy.

Thank you, Alexis, for the difference you make every day!
