MRI magnets are always on — and they’re up to 60,000 times stronger than Earth’s magnetic field. That means even tiny metal items can become dangerous projectiles in the MRI room.

Common items that must be removed before entering the MRI suite:
• Keys, coins, pens, and paperclips
• Cell phones, smartwatches, or fitness trackers
• Hairpins, jewelry, and body piercings
• Badges, belts, wallets, and zippers
• Tools or equipment carried by staff or visitors

💥 Why it matters:
These objects can fly through the air and strike the magnet at high speeds, risking injury to you, your care team, or damaging expensive equipment. In clinical settings, 100% of projectile injuries are preventable with proper screening.

• Be honest and thorough during your screening

MRI machines are incredibly powerful — and that power comes with a lot of noise. The banging, knocking, and humming sounds you hear during a scan can reach levels up to 110 decibels — similar to a rock concert!

That’s why hearing protection is essential for every MRI.

At Coosa Valley MRI, we provide:
• Foam earplugs or soft headsets
• Noise-reducing headphones (when compatible with your scan)
• Music in select cases to help ease anxiety and create a more calming experience

Even short-term exposure to loud sounds can affect your hearing, which is why we never skip this step — and you shouldn’t either.

✅ Pro tip: If you’ve had ear surgery, tubes, or any hearing-related conditions, let us know ahead of time so we can tailor your hearing protection.
