Dawn McGee, Nutrition Evangelist I work with Wellness Professionals as well as consumers with complex health stories to help both create more successful and fun habits in their worlds.

I believe that we all have the right to look good and feel good, no matter how old we are. I teach women how to get off the sidelines and start enjoying their lives, all while eating foods they love. As an IBNFC certified coach, I am constantly looking for ways to bring more innovation and fun to my clients. I have been in the health and wellness industry for over 10 years. I put the fun back into

being healthy, working with women who are sick of being on the diet roller coaster and are ready for sustainable results. As a Certified and Licensed Nutrition Coach, I have worked with dozens of women to help them achieve their health goals. Initial engagements start with an 8 week package. Following that, we can work on a month by month basis or longer 6-12 month packages. I can also customize a semi-private group offering, or a workplace wellness package. Call, email, or DM me for more details, or to set up a complimentary consultation.

Earlier in my career, I believed every opportunity was something I had to say yes to.

Conferences. Partnerships. Speaking opportunities. New collaborations. Every idea felt exciting and important.

So I said yes. A lot.

But eventually I noticed something.

Even though my calendar was full of opportunities, I was not always making the progress I expected.

More activity did not automatically equal more growth.
That was a big shift for me.

Now I look at opportunities through a different lens. Instead of asking, “Does this sound interesting?” I ask, “Does this support the year I am trying to create?”

If the answer is yes, it goes on the calendar.
If the answer is no, it probably does not belong there.

I am curious about you.

Do you tend to say yes to most opportunities, or have you become more selective over time?

One of the hardest lessons about planning your year is realizing that just because you can do something does not mean you should.

Many women over 50 find themselves exhausted not because they failed, but because they have spent years saying yes to everything they were capable of handling.

That kind of overfunctioning can look like success from the outside, but it often leads to burnout.

This month we are talking about planning your year intentionally. That includes deciding what belongs on your calendar and what does not.

In this powerful blog, Diane Amelia Read shares a wake up call about burnout from overfunctioning and why it is time to rethink how much we carry.

Most people plan their year the same way.

Work goes on the calendar first. Meetings, events, launches, commitments. Then whatever time is left gets filled with life.

The problem is that by the time work is scheduled, there is rarely much space left.

Try flipping that approach.

Start by scheduling your personal priorities first.

Family vacations. Important family events. Time off. Days to recharge. Moments that matter to you.

Once those are protected on your calendar, then build your work schedule around them.

Something interesting often happens when people try this. Their business becomes more focused and intentional. They make clearer decisions about what truly needs to be scheduled and what can wait.

Protecting your life does not hurt your business. In many cases, it improves it.

Opportunities can be exciting.

A collaboration.
A speaking event.
A conference.
A new idea that sounds promising.

But opportunities can also quietly fill your calendar until there is no room left for the things that actually matter.

Before saying yes, try asking yourself one simple question.

Does this support the year I am trying to create?

If the answer is yes, it may be a great fit.

If the answer is no, it may simply be a distraction dressed up as an opportunity.

Your time and energy are limited resources.
Being selective is not negative. It is strategic.

Curious to hear from you.
Are you someone who finds it easy or difficult to say no to opportunities?

We love planning the things that feel good.

✨ Travel
✨ Time with people we love
✨ Work we enjoy

But what about the things that feel… unsettled?

The truth is:
👉 That’s where your growth is.

Not in what’s already working.
But in what you’ve been avoiding.

It could be:
✔️ Your health habits
✔️ Your business growth
✔️ Your environment
✔️ That one thing you keep putting off

You don’t have to dive all the way in.

But you do need to spend some time there.
Because on the other side of that discomfort…
Is exactly what you’ve been looking for.

👇 Where are you feeling unsettled right now?

Sometimes the most strategic decision you can make is deciding what will not happen this year.

Most of us carry around long lists of ideas and projects we feel like we should complete immediately.

Launch this program.
Start that project.
Attend this conference.
Build that offer.

Before you know it, your year is overloaded and everything feels rushed.

Here is the truth.

A focused year almost always produces better results than an overloaded one.

Choosing two or three priorities and doing them well often leads to more growth than trying to do ten things at once.

So here is something to think about.

If you could remove one project from your list this year without guilt, what would it be?

For a long time, I made the same mistake when planning my year.

I planned my business first and tried to fit my life around it.

Launches went on the calendar. Meetings went on the calendar. Projects went on the calendar. The result looked impressive on paper. My schedule was full.

But something about it always felt off.

There was very little space left for the things that actually mattered to me. Family time. Personal days. Travel. Rest.

Eventually I tried something different. I planned my life first.

Vacations went on the calendar. Important family dates. Personal days. Time to recharge.

Then I built my business schedule around those things.

Everything changed.

My calendar still had structure, but it felt better. My work became more focused because my personal priorities were protected.

Here is a question for you.

When you plan your year, do you usually schedule your work first or your life first?

If you run a wellness or fitness business, one of the most stressful things you can do is wait until the last minute to plan your launches.

When launches are reactive, everything feels rushed. Marketing gets squeezed in. Content becomes stressful to create. And the experience for both you and your clients can feel chaotic.

Instead, map out your year in advance.

Ask yourself a few simple questions:
When will your seasonal programs run?
What promotions or challenges will you offer?
What months make the most sense for growth and visibility?
What months should be quieter so you can focus on delivery and rest?

When you plan launches ahead of time, you give yourself space to prepare properly. Your messaging becomes clearer, your marketing becomes easier, and your year starts to feel much more manageable.

A little planning now creates a much smoother year later.
