We're saddened to learn of the passing of Quintissa Peake, a sickle cell warrior, blood donation advocate, former KBC employee and friend. After a lengthy battle with Sickle Cell Disease that started at just 11 months old, Quintissa died Friday, August 15, 2025. She was 44.

She received more than 500 lifetime blood transfusions that allowed her to not only survive, it allowed her to lead a fulfilling and impactful life. She was an advocate for blood donation and a champion for those in need of blood. She will be missed by our KBC family.

Quintissa was so much more than her disease. She was honored just this year with the East Kentucky Leadership Foundation’s Carolyn Sundy Award. The award is given to individuals who stand for inclusion, diversity, education and leadership.

We encourage you to learn more about a life well-lived at the link below. In honor of Quintissa and so many others battling the same condition, we urge you to give a bit of yourself to provide others life.

We've seen two great Battle of the Badges this week! We visited Scott and Jessamine County. Both counties are competing internally to see which of their individual first responder agencies will prevail with the highest blood donations.

We appreciate the partnership of both Jessamine County Emergency Medical Services and Georgetown/Scott County EMS as they participate in a program that allows KBC to provide units of whole blood to emergency vehicles. When minutes matter, these units can make a big difference. Thank you to all of the first responders who came out this week to support this effort!
