This patient presented with marionette lines and volume loss of the lips, seeking a subtle, natural enhancement. Treatment with Juvederm® dermal filler, performed by a board-certified dermatologist, restored balance to the perioral region while maintaining facial harmony. Strategic filler placement can soften the appearance of age-related volume loss, supporting a natural and graceful aging process.

July is Melasma Awareness Month🌞

Melasma is a common skin condition that causes dark patches, often on the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip. While it can be challenging, improvement is possible with the right combination of treatments and consistent care.

These before-and-after photos show the progress of a patient under the care of Dr. Vemula, treated with a comprehensive, evidence-supported plan that included:
• Hydroquinone
• Tranexamic acid
• Azelaic acid
• Tretinoin
• Topical corticosteroids
• Multiple chemical peels

Melasma is a long-term condition. There is no quick fix. Results take time and require ongoing maintenance to prevent recurrence.

Sun protection is essential. Even after successful treatment, melasma can return without proper UV protection. During summer months, be extra diligent: reapply your sunscreen regularly throughout the day. Mineral, tinted sunscreens offer added protection and help reduce visible flare-ups.

Book an appointment with one of our board-certified dermatologists to create a personalized melasma treatment plan that works for your skin.

“No pimple lasts for months.” — Dr. Vemula

A bump that doesn’t go away, keeps bleeding, crusts over, or simply won’t heal could be more than just a stubborn pimple, it might be a sign of skin cancer, such as a basal cell carcinoma.

The good news? When caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable.

🔍 If you’ve had a spot that hasn’t healed in over 4–6 weeks, don’t ignore it.

Schedule your skin check with one of our board-certified dermatologists at Northstar Dermatology. Early detection makes all the difference!

We hear you!👂We understand that sometimes you want to look a little more tan during summer or for a special occasion. But the truth is, when that glow comes from sun exposure or tanning beds, the damage to your skin simply isn’t worth it.

In short, tanning is a sign of skin damage. While often associated with health, the “glow” of a tan is actually the opposite, it’s evidence of DNA injury to your skin. Tanning damages your skin cells, accelerates visible signs of aging, and worst of all, increases your risk of skin cancer.

It’s a fact: there is no such thing as a safe or healthy tan. Tanning significantly increases your chances of developing basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Just one indoor tanning session before age 35 increases your risk of melanoma by 75%.

Your best defense is to protect your skin and if you still want that sun-kissed look, opt for a sunless tan.

Spray tans or self-tanning products give you that radiant glow without the risk. Our friends at are experts in safe, natural-looking tans that let you enjoy the look you want without harming your skin.

This summer, skip the damage and choose glow the smart way. Your future skin will thank you.✨

6-Month Isotretinoin Journey: This remarkable transformation showcases the life-changing potential of isotretinoin therapy for severe cystic acne. Under the expert management of Dr. Ukoha, this patient completed a comprehensive 6-month treatment course that targeted the underlying causes of severe acne.

This patient presented with severe nodular cystic acne - the type that forms deep, painful lesions often leading to permanent scarring without proper intervention. After other treatments failed to provide adequate clearance, isotretinoin became the treatment of choice.

Studies show that isotretinoin treatment often results in prolonged acne clearance, with many patients experiencing permanent improvement. The skin may continue to improve even after completing the medication course.

Important Note: Isotretinoin requires careful medical supervision due to potential side effects. This medication is only prescribed by dermatologists after thorough evaluation of risks and benefits for each individual patient.

Results may vary. Always consult with a board-certified dermatologist to determine if isotretinoin is appropriate for your specific case.

TipTuesday from your board-certified dermatologist! ☀️👩🏻‍⚕️

Here’s the truth about sun protection that might surprise you:

The best sunscreen is the one you will use regularly. Consistent daily application of any broad-spectrum SPF 30+ is more effective than sporadic use of higher SPF products.

And let’s bust this myth once and for all: There is NO such thing as a “base tan” or “safe tan”. Every tan is evidence of DNA damage, no matter how gradual or “careful” you think you’re being.

What’s your go-to sunscreen? Drop your favorites in the comments! 👇

Your skin is your largest organ and one of the first things others may notice about you. And while sun rays hitting your skin can feel downright luxurious, the ultraviolet (UV) rays the sun — and tanning beds — emit are actually pretty harmful.  Without UV protection, your skin can gradually de...

Summer is around the corner, and this little one is already setting the gold standard for sun safety! 👶 🏊

Those adorable UPF clothes, hat, and sunglasses aren’t just a fashion statement, they’re serious skin protection. A baby’s skin is more sensitive than adult skin, making sun protection absolutely essential from day one.

✨ Remember these tips during this summer:
- Protect your skin with UPF 50+ clothing and swimwear.
- Wear wide-brimmed hats that shade face, ears, and neck.
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30+ - reapply every 2 hours (for babies, use mineral sunscreen and minimal use if younger than 6 months). Favor lotion sunscreen over spray when possible, and if using spray sunscreen, apply it close to the skin to ensure proper coverage.
-Don’t forget often-missed spots: ears, feet, lips, and scalp
-Seek shade during peak hours (10am-4pm)

Remember: even on cloudy days, 80% of UV rays get through!

The habits we teach them now will protect them for life—and these same rules apply to all of us! Because healthy skin starts with smart choices, no matter your age! 💙

That spot you’ve been ignoring? It might be trying to tell you something. Skin cancer is the most common cancer, but it’s also one of the most treatable when caught early!

Know the most common types:

• Basal cell carcinoma: The pearly bump that doesn’t heal
• Squamous cell carcinoma: The thick, rough, scaly patch that keeps coming back
• Melanoma: The mole that’s changing the game

Remember your ABCDEs for checking moles:
Asymmetry
Border irregularity
Color variation
Diameter larger than 6mm
Evolving size, shape or color

Your monthly assignment: Right after your shower… check your skin! 🔍 What takes 10 minutes could literally save your life.

Your yearly must-do: Book that dermatologist appointment for a professional screening. No excuses, your future self will thank you!
