Karen Baker, MSW, PCD(DONA) I also provide care for the new baby and siblings in the home while parents rest or take a shower.

As your postpartum doula, I will help provide a more gentle transition into parenthood by providing non-judgmental care to your entire family in the weeks after birth of your new baby or babies. I can help new parents confidence in their new roles by providing emotional care, helping them process their birth experience, and giving companionship during a long, tiring day with a newborn. I provide baby care education, such as swaddling, soothing techniques, bathing tips, diapering, and answering other routine newborn related questions. I can give breastfeeding assistance, such as help with getting a proper latch, pumping, milk supply issues, and referrals to a lactation consultant if necessary. I realize the day-to-day challenges of having a baby in the home and will give you practical assistance with necessary tasks such as meal preparation and laundry. I have a wealth of resources in the Triangle area, such as breastfeeding groups or other mommy/baby activities. As a mother of twins myself, I have a great deal of experience with multiples (I have worked with twins, triplets, and quads). I am also knowledgeable with special needs children, postpartum depression, and special dietary needs. Postpartum doula services are generally more extensive than that of a baby nurse, and are non-medical in nature. I am able to serve most of the Triangle area, including Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Holly Springs, Morrisville, and Raleigh.
