When we have not been given love and security, life often becomes a cycle of desperate need instead of unconditional giving. We start striving, searching for scraps of affection and safety, rather than living out of the overflow of God’s love.
But our kids shouldn’t have to earn love and safety. These are not rewards to achieve; they are the soil in which a child should grow. They should flow naturally from the gracious gifts God has given us as parents and caregivers.
That’s why it’s so vital that we begin our days with Scripture and prayer. When we open God’s Word, we’re reminded that we are undeserving of every good gift we have and yet, because of Christ, we are fully loved, fully safe, and fully secure.
Out of that place of security in Him, we can finally give love unconditionally, just as He has done for us.
