Friday, September 19, 2025, patients at William S. Hall experienced a heartwarming and therapeutic visit from Odom’s Mobile Petting Zoo during a special event organized by the Activity Therapy Department.

The event featured a delightful assortment of animals, including ducks, chickens, bunnies, a friendly goat, and even a bearded dragon; all brought in to support patient wellness and emotional healing.

Pet therapy has been widely recognized for its numerous psychological and physical benefits, such as reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, and improving mood. Interaction with animals can spark joy, encourage social engagement, and offer a calming, sensory experience, especially valuable in therapeutic settings.

The goal of this special event was to provide patients with a unique and meaningful connection to nature and animals, promoting comfort, emotional support, and a break from the daily routine. Judging by the smiles and laughter throughout the visit, the mobile petting zoo delivered just that and more.

According to the Spinal Injuries Association, the number of people who experience spinal cord injury paralysis is around 2,500 a year. While the causes of many of these accidents vary, a proportion of them will be the result of participation in sports, whether for leisure or professionally.
