This is what we work against everyday, with each lab order, restocking of every kind of cleaning supplies, medications, carts of chuxs pads, and loads and loads of laundry. Hours and hours of driving & charting. We do it for these EXTRAORDINARY birthdays! Where a woman’s physiology is trusted and her preferences are dictating what we do. Because WOMEN matter🤍

Vaginal BIRTH After 3 previous cesarean sections!!!Yes I am ecstatic!!! My guess is that this is also her biggest baby yet. He’s likely very close to 9 lbs. but of course I don’t know yet because he has been in his mother’s arms since I passed him to her 1 hour and 56 minutes ago. And yes that is another true knot🪢 in an umbilical cord and once again this mother’s womb knew exactly how to contract to protect. ie. another “odd” contraction pattern…rather another amazing contraction pattern🙌🏼

A true cord knot. 🪢 Correlated with an active fetus in the second trimester. Which is very common & healthy! What is unusual is the true knot 🪢 . A true knot is said to occur in approximately 1% of all births. I believe this is the 4th true knot I’ve witnessed, with each of these precious tiny humans born into my hands. What I find MOST BEAUTIFUL about this knot is that the surge pattern was irregular ALL the way through until baby was earthside. Not 5-1-1 not 4-1-1 not even 3-1-1 this womb protected! This womb was wise! With protective irregular surges until she gave birth with a fast fetal decent and fast push! The true knot is said to be a mechanical abnormality of the umbilical cord. It is written to sometime cause fetal harm by impeding blood flow to baby. This is a BEAUTIFUL example of why letting a woman’s body do its work and not interfering unless it’s absolutely necessary is typically the path we should take.

ALERT 🚨 to all midwifery supports and those wanting to support what midwifery stands for…birth autonomy and the normalization of birth. If you reside in CA please contact your Senator (if it’s around Bakersfield it’s Shannon Grove, 916-651-4012) please ask your Senator’s Aid (the person who answered the phone) to have the Senator vote YES on AB 55 The Birth Freedom Act. This legislation removes unnecessary restrictions forcing midwives across the state to close their birth centers, has made it all the way to the Senate floor and is being voted on this week.
