Project 99

On August 2nd, 2015 a Murrieta Valley High School student took his own life, as a result of this tragedy, Diego's friends and family started Project 99.

Project 99’s mission is to educate teens and the community about the negative consequences of suicide and to show students how one choice can devastate an entire community. It's been a rough year for our Lights for Life 5K. The 2024 race will be virtual. It was a hard decision to come to, and we worked to the very end to find a way to continue in person, but the circumstances did not allow us to move forward. The Murrieta PD’s department took a 10% budget cut, which included the money they use to fund our race security. In addition, the PD and city wanted to change our race course to keep us off Jefferson Ave. This move would require a whole new Traffic Control Plan, which is very costly. Both of these hits came at a time when our donations are at an all-time low, so our budget will not allow us to race in person this year.

Although these circumstances have limited us from an in-person race, we are excited to partner with Hobby Joggers for our 2024 virtual race. Hobby Joggers has created a new race sign-up platform, will be enhancing the virtual activities leading up to the race and on race day, and ensuring that our virtual race will be fun and engaging for all involved! We are already working on plans for our 2025 in person race. We have some amazing ideas to bring the race closer to the school sites and the students. We cannot wait to share our new and updated in person 5K.

We thank you in advance for being patient with us as we pivot to ensure that we continue to work with the students, families, school employees, and the community to bring awareness to su***de education and prevention.

Project 99 is working in collaboration with the Murrieta Valley USD to provide su***de prevention for families and their children. You will learn how to see the signs and tips to support your students in building up their resiliency. You will also leave with a personalized coping plan and resources to help you seek help when needed. Please use the QR code below to register. Free child chare and dinner will be provided.
