It was an honor and privilege for CHI Health at Home – Bismarck We Honor Veterans to award Vernon R. his Quilt of Honor during his Veteran Pinning ceremony. Honored to assist in his wrapping were his son Steve R and his nephew Kenneth S.
Vernon enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard in 1947, where he continued until January 1951 when he was drafted into the United States Army. After being drafted, he was sent to Fort Rucker, AL. Vernon was a natural working on engines while growing up on the family farm, which led him to work as a mechanic in the unit’s motor pool. Vernon’s daily routine included upkeep and repairs on the fleet of Jeeps, trucks and other vehicles on the base. Vernon was honorably discharged in May 1952. His rank at discharge was Corporal and his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) was Artillery and Mechanic. He is a member of American Legion – ND Post 0133 Wishek, ND.
Vernon is very proud of his military service. Despite not serving overseas when drafted during the Korean War, Vernon did his duty to keep the war’s machinery running. He is very proud of his 2 sons following in his military footsteps.
“Vernon, on behalf of the United States and CHI Health at Home – Bismarck We Honor Veterans program, thank you for your service!”
