What do you get when you mix a famous person, a car alarm, and a chicken in distress? Chaos. ✨
We live at the end of a quiet street, hugged by rainforest-like bush with glimpses of the blue ocean. Serenity, you’d think.
Wrong.
Today, one of Stews' (my lovely other half) famous clients was coming over rather than going to the recording studio. And I thought, “perfect excuse to wash the sofa covers."
Then, as the washing machine hummed, I heard it.
🐓 A chicken. Screaming.
Not a polite cluck. A distressed, relentless scream from deep in the bush that gave me chills.
It kept going, louder, more desperate. Then, I saw our neighbour bolting down her driveway, calling her dog’s name. I put 2 + 2 together immediately & I called Stew & Tom (my son) to come help.
Right then, as the chicken screamed, a car alarm started blaring. When it paused for a moment, a second car alarm down the street started up, triggered by the first. WTH 🤦♀️
Chaos is catching.
Now we had a screaming chicken and duelling car alarms echoing through our ‘quiet’ street, drawing out 'all,' the WFH neighbours.
Stew, Tom & neighbour John found the chicken, but getting to it was complicated; bush, brambles & steep terrain. My son went door-knocking to find the 🐓 owner while the others, box in hand, clambered through the wet undergrowth.
Meanwhile, the alarms kept going, the chicken kept screaming, and the laundry kept tumbling.
✨ 2.5 hours later, peace was mostly restored.
✨ One chicken still missing.
✨ One sadly, passed away chicken 😭☠️
✨ The car alarms finally fell silent ( yes, they blared for over 2 hours).
And those cushion covers? Getting the inserts back in turned into an Olympic event & every bloody zipper broke 🤯
Just before Stews' client arrived, the chaos seemed over. Until...
Cluck. Cluck. Cluck. 🐔🐔🐔
You wouldn’t believe it. There, in my front garden, was the missing 🐓
Neighbours gathering again, coordinating like a tactical unit & with two minutes to spare before Stews' special client arrived, she was back in her owners relieved arms. At least one survived.
Honestly, this is the gift of community. In a world where we often feel isolated, people will rally with love & support. But what a f$&kery!
