How we won the Higgens and Langly swift water rescue award.
Case #93-211-003 Clatsop Co. Water Rescue Seaside, Ore. South Shore beach. (On Scene)
Team: H.Oakes SAR Dog Ranger and Brandon Oakes.
Results: While walking on the beach we witnessed 5 children get pulled out to sea by a sneaker rip tide undertow.
One girl made it out on her own. Two parents jumped in and saved their children and that left two children still heading out to sea. Drowning.
Brandon acted as a spotter while Ranger and I went to help.
I swam out to the boy and pulled him out of the water and Ranger swam 30 yards out to the little girl and she hung on to his tail while he pulled her in.
Fire Dept. and Police notified of incident by family. Great Save Ranger. Brandon acted as spotter. Did great job. (Later we were awarded the Higgins and Langley Water Rescue Award for saving these two kid’s lives).
It's nice when we can save them.

How I used a helicopter and my SAR Dog Ranger to find a missing hiker.
On 06-22-93 case # 93-226-018 I was called in to the Olympic National Park to search for missing Hiker-Hoskins-West Side of Mt. Angelas. Olympic National Forest. Missing x 13 days.
I gave SAR Dog Ranger the work command, we than loaded inside a helicopter and I asked the pilot to open the windows and air vents and fly as close to Mt Angeles as possible. As we made our first pass, my SAR Dog air scented and alerted on a "Dead body".
I looked down and there he was. He had fallen 300 feet to his death.
I notified the pilot we had found him. Pilot said "Are you kidding? We've searched this area three times with climbers, other SAR Dog teams and flown the area twice.
It took us 15 minutes to find his remains using this method.
We assisted in the body recovery with park rangers and MT. Rescue.

How I proved a Deputy sheriff from Douglas County murdered his son.
I was called to a private home in Douglas Co. Ore. by OSP Detectives regarding a missing child Tommy Gibson.
on 05-22-91 Case #91-015 Douglas Co. SO. Missing child Tommy Gibson. Homicide.
Team: H. Oakes SAR Dog Ranger. While searching the residence my SAR Dog Ranger gave a death alert in the kitchen. Larry, his wife, their young daughter and larry's attorney were all standing nearby watching us work.
When my SAR Dog gave a death alert, I notified detectives and Larry's daughter said "That's where my Daddy hurt my brother".
The attorney quickly escorted Larry, his family out of the house so we couldn't hear their conversation. I then searched the outside of the house and under some corragated tin roofing material I found Tommy's clothing buried in the dirt.
Results: Douglas Co. Deputy Larry Gibson claims his son was kidnapped in the country down a private rd where two big dogs were sitting in front of with a Marked Police car parked in front of house and four people home sitting in front of Picture Window.
Oregon State Police served search warrant on his house today.
Larry later convicted of killing Tommy and fabricating story.
Everything my search dog Ranger and I found showed that Larry did kill Tommy in the kitchen while Tommy was eating and then he laid the child outside. Larry then put Tommy in back of patrol car and left the scene.
Tommy’s remains have never been found yet. Larry convicted of homicide. Ranger located Tommy's shirt where Larry buried it outside house under corragated tin roofing.

Using a victim's remains (Crime scene as a scent article to track the murder suspect).
09-04-89 89-016 Clark Co. Vanc. Wash. David Douglas Park Missing 2 boys. William and Cole Neer. Teams: H.Oakes SAR Dog Ranger and SSSAR. Search teams found two boys dead. Murdered and molested & Stabbed to death. SAR Dog Ranger Tracked suspect from victim's body one mile into city to Andresen St. Vanc. PD with us on track. (Suspect) parked his car here and then left the scene after the crime. Suspect later id as Westly Allen Dodd who was later captured.
On of our quickest finds. We just arrived per Polk Co. Sheriff's office request to search a farm in P*e Dee, Oregon. Once we arrived while I was talking to the SAR Deputy Bill Seeley, all 3 SAR dogs walked over to a nearby firepit and started giving "Death alerts". Upon inspecting the site carefully there was a tennis shoe sticking out of the fire pit with a human bone attached to it. The suspect buried the victim and then built a fire to hide the evidence. (He didn't do a good job at all hiding it).

04-06-89 89-005 Polk Co. Ore.
Person missing "Jay Burroughs"-Homicide-P*e Dee, Ore.
Victim missing 45 days.
Team: H.Oakes SAR Dog Ranger. Bill Galowski SAR Dog Lady and another K9 team member from our unit with her SAR dog Deb w Amber.
Results: MWSD Teams Located victims buried in dirt and debris pile in 3 minutes. We also located vital evidence in crime scene to show where victim was killed (SHOT) how he was transported to burial site, where evidence was in an abandoned house to show who shot victim and when.

The Better Business Bureau supports liars and misinformation. Shame on them.
08/2023 Here's the email I received from a client.

"Hello, my wife Karol received a call from a lady that used your services to find her cat and we are interested to see if this is possible for our cat. She went missing Monday, June 26th, now 7 weeks ago as of today. We live in Scappoose Oregon above the HWY 30 fire station on the hill and have mountains and tree behind and beside us. The cat feared her shadow and I fear something scared her and she lost her way. We have a few things with her scent on it and have two other cats that may interfere with the scent. Is it possible to find her with these challenges? She was wearing a collar with a phone number tag, but with her fear of people I am afraid no one would be able to get close enough to read the tag.

Interested in the possibilities and cost. James Ford 503- # # #- # # # # Team; H. Oakes. Results: Sent info. Sent a consulting contract which protects the client and my business.

and I found a n

egative review of me and my work on the BBB files.
Review fromJames F 1 star 08/21/2023
Scam.... beware. I was sent a bill and contract before any consultation or assessment was preformed. Sad owners of missing pets fall for this scam; they fill out his not of legit contract and he shows up to collect the money. This needs to be stoped. If you give him a bad Yelp rating he attacks, calling the customer names. Read his responses on yelp... it explains his true character.

My email to this LIAR.
"At no time did I call you any names until now. Anyone who attacks me, my work is labeled a "TROLL" when they attack me openly without any documented factual evidence.

My credibility has and will continue to hold up in court.
You contacted me, I didn't contact you.

I sent you a contract which protects you and my company. You refused my service and then write a negative review because I charge for consulting. Shame on you. You need to grow up.
He stated I showed up to collect money. I never ever in 38 years have done that. (Another lie).

My 38 years of success speaks for itself and not from uneducated folks like yourself.

I never once saw you standing by my side on any of the 15,150 calls I've worked around the world.

I've never seen you spend your own $ to fly to a country (Turkey, Honduras, Philippines) from disaster and risk your own life yet I've been there, and you call me a scammer.

I've filed a complaint against you with the dept of justice and the BBB folks like you who never used my professional service need to keep your mouths shut.

I've attached my first book that I wrote about SAR maybe this will educate you a bit.

Note: I filed a complaint with the BBB about them posting lies/misinformation from clients and they did NOTHING about it. This means they support liars and misinformation.
They certainly have lost my trust.

Our Story

Search and Rescue has been around forever. I started in SAR with the Multnomah Co. Sheriff’s office in 1972 as a volunteer with Post 900 and 631. In the Explorer program.

My company has been born out of years volunteering with the Sheriff's office, US Military, and Mountain Rescue. I co-founded the Search dog program for the state of Oregon in 1986 while I was an active instructor for Portland Mountain Rescue and the Mazamas. That was over 12,960 search calls ago. We're on call 24/7 to respond anywhere in the world. Earthquakes, tornadoes, bombings, Tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, fires, terrorist attacks, missing adults, children, mental patients, lost pets. www.k9sardog.com In 1997 I went from a non profit volunteer to a for profit professional rescue business that now averages between 450 to 750 SAR calls requests a year. My email is sardogk91@aol.com you may also reach me at sardogk91@gmail.com

There are now over 150 paid for profit K9 SAR teams through out the USA. US Military, Federal Parks, US Coast Guard, US Navy, US Army, US Marines, FEMA, USFS all are paid SAR Folks. Also all Law enforcement and Fish and Game are all now paid SAR Folks.

We’re one of the few teams that looks for both missing persons (Live and dead) as well as missing lost stolen pets. I also spend a lot of time teaching all aspects of SAR, Man tracking, outdoor survival, tech rope rescue, swift water SAR, Confined space SAR, USAR, Wilderness, Jungle, Desert, Urban, Rural. I also am one of the few SAR Coordinators that has been certified as an EXPERT Witness in the courtroom to testify on wrongful death, death investigations, K9 SAR, and all aspects of SAR.
