This afternoon, we delivered boxes of school supplies collected during our National Health Center Week drive to our community partner, Centro Unido Latino Americano (CULA).

CULA, based in McDowell County, is dedicated to uplifting the Latino community through programs that provide emergency relief, educational support, and workforce development. The supplies will help Latinx families in the community get ready for the school year.

All week long, WNCCHS patients have been adding their voices to gratitude boards, leaving heartfelt notes about what community health and WNCCHS mean to them. As we close out National Health Center Week with "Gratitude and Future Vision" Day, we thought we'd share a few of those messages.

We’re deeply grateful for every patient, staff member, partner, and supporter who makes our mission possible. On Partner Appreciation Day, we’re highlighting Buncombe County Department of Health (Buncombe County Health & Human Services), a vital resource for individuals and families in our community.

From public health programs like immunizations and disease prevention to social services such as WIC, housing support, and family assistance, their work helps improve the well-being of thousands of residents each year.

We want to recognize our fellow safety net providers in the area:
MAHEC Family Health Centers, Blue Ridge Health, and Appalachian Mountain Health. Together, we share a commitment to making health care accessible for everyone in Western North Carolina.

Community health centers provide essential medical, dental, and behavioral health services, often in rural or underserved areas, ensuring that no one is turned away because of inability to pay.

It's Partner Appreciation Day, which gives us a chance to share our gratitude for the organizations that walk alongside us in service to our community.

Loving Food Resources provides food and personal care items to those living with HIV/AIDS, anyone in home Hospice Care regardless of diagnosis and members of the LGBTQIA2+ community facing food insecurity.

During Helene, Loving Food transformed into a vital disaster response hub — serving hot pancake breakfasts, distributing clean water, and expanding support far beyond its usual mission.

Haywood Street Respite provides short-term care for people experiencing homelessness who are discharged from the hospital and need a safe place to recover. Their model blends hospitality, dignity, and connection.

In honor of Partner Appreciation Day, we're continuing to spotlight a handful of the organizations we’re fortunate enough to work alongside — each playing a key role in improving health and well-being across Western North Carolina.

Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) is a faith-based nonprofit organization addressing poverty, hunger, homelessness, and access to healthcare for underserved populations across North Carolina. Supported by over 300 churches, ABCCM serves over 30,000 individuals each year.

Services include transitional and permanent housing through three facilities with 450 beds, workforce development and job placement, free medical and pharmacy care, and support for incarcerated individuals. Additionally, ABCCM provides peer support and substance use services, as well as comprehensive programs for veterans and their families.

The organization serves all individuals in need, regardless of race, color, national origin, s*x, age, religion, or disability. More more info:

Continuing our Partner Appreciation Day celebration! Today, we’re recognizing how, by partnering with dedicated local organizations, we can provide whole-person care and support for our patients.

Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP), exists to provide equitable access to care and reduce harm from HIV, Hepatitis C and substance misuse.

WNCAP works in all 18 counties in Western North Carolina. Its case management programs include HIV case management, housing assistance, client engagement opportunities, transportation, and food delivery. Prevention programs provide HIV/HCV/STI testing, education, and prophylactics. All services are free and confidential.

Partner Spotlight: Pisgah Legal Services provides free civil legal aid to people who live in poverty. They help more than 25,000 of the most vulnerable people in our communities annually to meet urgent needs such as: housing, safety from abuse, health care and income.
