1. Start by lying on the ground. Be sure that your lower back is in contact with the floor.

2. Raise your head and feet off the ground. Keep the legs straight. You may place the hands next to your hips or out to the sides of the body, whichever is more comfortable.

Today we will look at a simple exercise to purge and tonify the energy (Qi) of the Stomach

Step 1 - Start with the left palm placed on the Solar Plexus (Middle Dantian) and the right palm facing away from your body. Visualize the toxic energy flowing from the stomach thru the left hand and out the right hand. This is the purging part of the exercise.

Step 2 - Switch the position of the hands placing the right palm on the Solar Plexus and left facing the ground. Rotate your right palm from left to right in a circular motion 36 times. This is the tonifying part of the exercise.

Step 3 - Stop rotating the right palm on the Solar Plexus and place the left palm on top of right. Feel the warmth and energy (Qi) that was created from the rotations. Remain in this position for 2 minutes

Step 4 - Drop the hands to just below the belly button (Lower Dantian). Breath normally and remain in this position as long as you are comfortable. This is the closing part of this exercise.

This exercise can be used up to 3 times per day.

Located one hand's width below the patella (knee cap), acupuncture point Stomach 36 (Zu San Li, translation Leg 3 miles) is the most important point on the Stomach Channel.

It can be used to treat any disorder of the Stomach and is the most important point in supporting the Earth Element (Stomach and Spleen).

It was used in ancient times by travelers to restore tired legs to go an extra “3 miles”. Treatment of this point energizes the body and boosts the immune system.

It also helps digestive disorders and aids in the generation of Qi and Blood.

When stimulated regularly it is known to release an enzyme called Telomerase.

Telomerase is linked to the longevity and the aging process in the body so think of this point as your personal fountain of youth!

One movement that strengthens the Spleen Channel is the Open Toe Wide Leg Squat. This motion can be seen in the Qigong routine called the Yi Jin Jing as well as many other classical Qigong sets.

To perform this motion stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart and turn your toes out away from your body. Bend your knees and lower your body as far as you can comfortably. Pause at the bottom and then drive your body up to the starting position.

A general rule of thumb would be to perform 3 sets of 10 repetitions of this motion. This motion also has a synergistic effect benefitting the Kidney and Liver Channel (Triple Yin).

Another alternative is to hold a stance instead of moving all the way thru the motion. This stance can be seen in many Qigong routines and Martial Arts Forms.
