Yo-yo dieting again changes our gut microbiome in ways that cause cravings and binge eating.

This appears to be especially true if, between "dieting," we are eating something closer to the standard western diet full of low nutrition "treats."

This study was conducted with mice, and they were able to provoke the change in eating behavior by implanting f***l material from mice who had been engaging in binge eating. The mice receiving the implanted material developed "an increase in hedonic appetite and weight gain."

These findings can help us understand why we develop those troubling behaviors-- our gut and our brain's reward mechanism drive cravings and hunger and binge eating.

Have you had the experience of feeling strongly pulled toward "treats" and losing your appetite for the real, nutritious foods?

Certainly part of this is driven by cultural conditioning and marketing. And another big part is driven by changes in our gut and our brain.

The idea that "a little treat here and there" doesn't hurt really doesn't seem to be true, and may just make real wise healthy eating habits quite challenging.

It doesn't work well to think about dieting as a temporary period of deprivation. All of that is unhelpful. Instead, focus on building strong healthy eatng habits that are clear and specific.

This reinforces the merits of finding a clear, specific healthy eating pattern, like SimplyWise Eating, and just making it a habit, without lots of exceptions.

What do I have to give up?

When I share that I have an eating approach that predictably improves our metabolic health and gives us natural weight loss, this question almost inevitably arises.

We suspect there must be a catch! "It's going to suck, isn't it?"
The answer is no, it doesn't suck at all!
