Our Story
Monique Cowan (also known as, Monique The Doula) is a Postpartum Family Nurturing Specialist. Monique offers classes for new mothers, fathers and their extended families. She also offers herbal blends to help new mamas heal from birth. Monique screens (but does not diagnose) parents for Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders. One of Monique's specialties is helping daddies realize how valuable they are, even if they are not married to or romantically involved with mom.
Monique has been doing the work of a doula since 2001, even before she had heard the word. She naturally cared for her friends and family members during and after their pregnancies. She has cared for babies and children since the age of 16. Monique formally trained as a doula in 2011, after receiving the nurturing and support of a doula during her own pregnancy and childbirth.
After experiencing Postpartum Depression and Anxiety, Monique understood the immense importance of postpartum care. After training to become a postpartum doula, she became an advocate and cheerleader for "the village"- the group of family and friends who surround the newborn's parents throughout pregnancy and beyond. Monique now trains those friends and family members to give optimal nurturing and support to the new parents, whether they hire a doula or not.
Monique also received certification from Divine Birth in pregnancy and postpartum herbs in the Black Southern tradition, and helps her clients and their families in natural healing and wellness.
