Dear Wonderful Families & Supporters,

As many of you already know, Ti**le Belle Diaper Service lost a contract that was integral to the foundation of the business. We were not given adequate notice and had no choice but to suddenly close down. This came as an unfortunate surprise to all of us. We are incredibly saddened by this news.

While this particular sustainability journey may be over, our legacy, your legacy will carry on through centuries. Literally, centuries. Just consider - over the last 8+ years, our families have kept over 1 MILLION diapers out of landfills. So I’m left thinking about what’s missing in our world. What’s missing is a GIANT pile of disposable diapers sitting in a California landfill that wouldn’t decompose for 500+ years. We all did that together. Nothing can change that fact.

There are are also effects that we may never see - the health of our babies who were wrapped in the clean, safe, soft embrace of cloth diapers. What a joy to have acted as a conduit of well-being for our children and care for the planet!

As you continue your sustainability journey, we encourage you to remember how far we’ve come together. It’s easy to focus on the doom and gloom of our planet and products, but there is goodness and change happening all around us.

Of course, we cannot write this letter without saying “thank you.” Thank you for entrusting with the diaper care of your little one. Thank you for returning with your second, third, even fourth child. Thank you for the Christmas cards sent with deliveries. Thank you for the snacks left on porches. Thank you for choosing us the last 8 years. It was a privilege to serve and partner with you every moment we had together!

We hope your family can find a new rhythm of sustainable diapering in this next season of life. And we wish you the sweetest of farewells.

🌎 I was going to try and put 200,000 little trees in the background of this photo, but my computer literally couldn't handle it...how do you think our planet is handling it? Disposable diapers use wood pulp as the filling or fluff of a disposable diaper, usually from pine trees. 🌲 It takes at least 15 years for a pine tree to grow enough for it to be harvested, if not longer. That's a long time!

Are we okay with cutting down trees that have been growing that long just for a diaper that's going to be worn for 2-3 hours and then spend 500 years in a landfill? Umm no, we're not okay with that. That's why Ti**le Belle Diaper Service exists. 🍃 We want to give families a sustainable alternative. Seriously. 🚽 Babies in cloth diapers really do potty train sooner than those in disposables! First of all, they can feel when they soil their diaper and begin associating that release with going p*e and poo. Because they can feel when they're wet, they're more motivated to potty train sooner. Think of all the diapers you don't have to change by potty training 6-18 months sooner. Yes please!

💧👶 Wet diapers = clean bums. What do we mean by that? Having a wet diaper is a good thing! Your baby's body is telling them it's time to be changed. More frequent changes mean LESS diaper rash. On the other hand, the super absorbent nature of disposables encourages leaving baby in their soiled diaper too long, resulting in more diaper rash and irritation. Let's choose cloth diapers and ! 🌿🍼

Babies wear diapers pretty much 24/7. Have you ever thought about what it might contain? Disposable diaper manufacturers are NOT REQUIRED to disclose the products and materials that make up their diapers. Isn't that crazy?! What do they have to hide?! 🕵️‍♂️ Despite this, some of the ingredients in disposable diapers have been revealed. Let's take a look at a few.

-Dioxin - a highly toxic by-product produced in manufacturing processes. Environmental pollutant.
-Phthalates - chemical often found in plastics, especially scented ones. Used to make plastics softer. Endocrine disrupter.
-Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons - Chemicals resulting from the burning of coal, oil, and gas. Linked to cancer, reproductive disorders, and more diseases.

It can be scary and overwhelming to consider what we and our children may be exposed to in the most common place items you can buy at the grocery store. That's why we encourage small steps towards healthy living and sustainability. Make the swaps where you can. Swap disposable diapers for the reassuring simplicity of cloth diapers. Natural fibers, like cotton, bamboo terry, and fleece, will keep your baby dry and free from the exposure of toxic chemicals.

And we like to recognize that most diapers covers are made from PUL - which may sound like a concerning compound. It's actually not! If you want to get real nerdy, google it! PUL exceeds the governmental standards for safety, and multiple tests confirm there are no toxins present. Cloth diapers, and their accessories, are excellent options when it comes to healthy diapering for your little one! 👶🍃
