Tobosa Developmental Services

Tobosa Developmental Services Tobosa is a community-focused organization dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and the surrounding community. https://tobosa.org

A 40-year-old nonprofit, Tobosa Developmental Services is southeast New Mexico’s premier provider of services to individuals living with developmental disabilities. We serve hundreds of individuals, giving them a safe space to experience growth and an opportunity to cultivate their talents through our individualized care and innovative programs. We help individuals and families experiencing developmental disabilities discover and use their gifts. To do that, we’ve equipped our staff with the most up-to-date training and support, consistent with the latest research and guidance. Four of our programs offer care for different levels of need, from around-the-clock care to occasional check-ins, as needed. This stair-step structure makes sure we can meet each individual’s abilities where they are, and graduate them to a life of substantial independence. We also offer respite care for caregivers and employment services, which give our clients fulfilling work and the means of earning a living. Tobosa is proud to be considered one of the highest quality centers for developmentally challenged individuals in southeastern New Mexico.

Did you know that 1.3 billion people around the world live with a significant disability? That is 16% of the global population, or 1 in 6 of us.

At Tobosa, we believe in creating communities where inclusion is not an afterthought but a priority. Small steps make a big difference. Holding accessible events, using clear and respectful communication, or simply listening with empathy are ways everyone can practice inclusion.

Together, we can build a world that values every individual.

Small steps like setting aside quiet moments, asking for help when needed, and staying connected with loved ones can make a big difference.

We thank every caregiver for their dedication and compassion! You are making a lasting impact every day!

Exiting News: Concert Venues Are Becoming Sensory Friendly

Live Nation Concerts and KultureCity have teamed up to make live music more accessible for fans with sensory processing needs. Through this partnership, 25 Live Nation venues in the U.S. and Canada have earned the “Sensory Inclusive” designation.

Staff at these venues receive specialized training. Each venue now offers sensory bags equipped with noise-reducing headphones, fidget tools, cue cards, and strobe-reduction glasses. Venues also provide clear maps, quiet zones, and online tools like social stories to help fans know what to expect before arrival.

This is a huge step forward in making live entertainment inclusive for people with autism, PTSD, dementia, ADHD, Down syndrome, and other sensory-related needs.
