Closure Update: Due to the continued spread of COVID-19, our location in a Senior Center, and the limits of our space for proper safety measures, we remain closed indefinitely. Whenever we are able to reopen, we may initially do so by appointment only, and in the long term we expect to have altered and/or shortened hours from our previous schedule. We will update again with more details when a reopening is planned, but in the meantime we remain available by email at simpsonvillegenealogy@gmail.com. Stay safe and wear your mask, everyone - thank you for your patience!

PLEASE NOTE: We will be closed today, Monday, March 16, 2020. As many of you know, our room is housed in an Activity and Senior Center. We may have to make an adjustment to our normal hours, so please look for additional information to be posted soon.

UPDATE!!: The Simpsonville Activity and Senior Center will close early today and remain closed for the rest of the month. Therefore, our room will be closed as well. This is for everyone’s safety and we wholeheartedly agree with the difficult decision that had to be made. Now, more than ever, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

South Carolina did not require birth certificates until January 1, 1915. These records are held by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and are closed for 100 years. The Archives has birth certificates for 1915-1918 available through the South Carolina Electronic Records Archive (SCERA).

Our latest blog post gives instructions on how to search SCERA for birth certificates! Learn more by visiting: https://scdah.sc.gov/news/2020-03/sc-birth-certificates-archives
