Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan, also known as Clear the Qi and Transform Phlegm Pill, is a traditional Chinese herbal formula that is commonly used to address conditions related to excess phlegm and dampness in the body.

The formula consists of several key herbs, including:

1. Huang Qin (Scutellaria baicalensis): Huang Qin is known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It is commonly used to clear heat and dampness, as well as resolve phlegm.

2. Zhi Zi (Gardenia jasminoides): Zhi Zi helps clear heat and dampness, and it has a cooling effect on the body. It is often used to relieve inflammation and eliminate toxins.

3. Zhu Ru (Bambusa spp.): Zhu Ru helps clear heat and resolve phlegm. It is often used for conditions such as coughing with phlegm and chest congestion.

4. Ban Xia (Pinellia ternata): Ban Xia is commonly used to transform phlegm and relieve nausea. It also helps regulate the flow of Qi in the body.

5. Chen Pi (Citrus reticulata): Chen Pi is known for its ability to regulate Qi, promote digestion, and transform phlegm. It is often used for conditions such as indigestion and phlegm-related coughs.

Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan is often recommended for individuals experiencing symptoms such as sinusitis, coughing with phlegm, chest congestion, and difficulty breathing due to excess phlegm and dampness.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), pathogens are seen as external factors that can cause disease. TCM categorizes pathogens into six types: Wind, Cold, Heat, Dampness, Dryness, and Summer Heat. These pathogens are believed to disrupt the body's balance and energy flow, leading to various health conditions. Here is a brief explanation of each TCM pathogen:

1. Wind: Wind is considered the primary pathogen in TCM. It is associated with sudden and rapid changes, and it can easily pe*****te the body. Wind is often accompanied by symptoms such as headache, body aches, nasal congestion, and sore throat.

2. Cold: Cold pathogens are associated with low temperatures and can invade the body through exposure to cold environments or consumption of cold foods and drinks. Cold pathogens may cause symptoms like chills, aversion to cold, body aches, and clear or white phlegm.

3. Heat: Heat pathogens are related to high temperatures and can enter the body through exposure to hot environments or consuming spicy and greasy foods. Heat pathogens may cause symptoms such as fever, thirst, redness, and inflammation.

4. Dampness: Dampness is associated with excessive moisture and can be caused by living in damp environments, consuming greasy or sweet foods, or having poor digestion. Dampness can lead to symptoms like heaviness in the body, bloating, fatigue, and cloudy urine.

5. Dryness: Dryness pathogens are related to a lack of moisture in the body and can be caused by dry weather, excessive sweating, or certain medications. Dryness can lead to symptoms such as dry skin, dry throat, thirst, and constipation.

6. Summer Heat: Summer Heat is a specific pathogen associated with hot and humid weather conditions. It can cause symptoms like fever, excessive sweating, thirst, and diarrhea.

In TCM, the treatment approach focuses on restoring the body's balance and expelling the pathogenic factors through herbal medicine, acupuncture, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle modifications. TCM practitioners aim to address the underlying imbalances and strengthen the body's defenses to prevent future pathogenic invasions.

15% Off for Veterans

Supporting veterans has always been close to my heart. During my time at the Edith Davis Teaching Clinic, I had the honor of treating veterans for free—and those were some of the most meaningful moments of my training.

Later, as a provider in the VA Community Care Program in 2019, I saw firsthand how acupuncture could ease pain, calm the nervous system, and restore a sense of balance.

Beginning in July, I’m offering a 15% discount for all veterans—a small way to give back to those who’ve given so much.
Thank you for your service. I’d be honored to support your healing journey.

Did you know your body has a “wandering nerve” that might just explain why acupuncture works so well?

The vagus nerve—one of the longest nerves in your body—is getting a lot of attention in modern neuroscience. It helps regulate everything from digestion and heart rate to mood and inflammation. But here’s the fascinating part: ancient Chinese medicine has been tapping into this system for thousands of years… without naming it.

Points along acupuncture channels, especially those on the ear, neck, and abdomen, often stimulate the vagus nerve or its branches. This can calm the nervous system, ease anxiety, improve gut health, and support overall balance—something Chinese medicine calls “harmonizing the Shen (spirit) and the Zang-Fu (organ systems).”

It’s a beautiful reminder that science is finally catching up to wisdom that’s been practiced for centuries.

Curious how acupuncture might support your vagus nerve—and your whole body? Let’s chat!
