National Women Physicians Day is observed annually on February 3 and honors the path that women doctors have pioneered for almost 175 years. The day officially marks the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States in 1849. It’s a day that celebrates not only her but every woman who has had the passion to join the medical profession.

KCMS is honored to support all of our members, and this week we pay special tribute to our women physician members who inspire patients and co-workers daily through their ambition, compassion, and dedication. You can spread awareness in your office and thank a woman physician for their work and let her know how much you appreciate them. You can also post on social media thanking women physicians for their work using the hashtag

Thank you!

Congratulations to KCMS Member Dr. Nirali Bora!

We are proud to congratulate Kent County Health Department Medical Director, Dr. Nirali Bora, MD for being appointed by Governor Whitmer to the Protect Michigan Commission.

The Protect Michigan Commission serves in an advisory capacity to Governor Whitmer and the Department of Health and Human Services. The new members are tasked with providing public leadership to elevate and reinforce the importance of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, identifying barriers that may impede the acceptance of an approved COVID-19 vaccine by Michigan residents, which includes identifying areas or groups within this state that are likely to experience vaccine hesitancy, and develop an outreach action plan designed to overcome these barriers.

Fireside Chats: Dialogue on Diversity virtual series begins this coming Monday!

In the weeks following the inaugural Fireside Chat session on racism, equality and inclusion, we have continued to receive thoughtful and informative feedback from our members. We want to continue the conversation via a series of listening sessions, the Fireside Chats: Dialogue on Diversity series, to facilitate discussion and reflection on issues related to equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice in healthcare practice and medical education.

Our first of two virtual events for the month of October will take place next Monday, October 19, at 7:30pm. Email kcmsoffice@kcms.org to RSVP for one or both events today! Join us for a robust discussion!

KCMS would like to bring awareness to ***deAwarenessDay on September 17, which occurs during ***dePreventionAwarenessMonth. This day is dedicated to honoring the memory of colleagues who have died by su***de and to continue to raise awareness and discussion on how to prevent it.

Physicians have one of the highest rates of su***de among all professions. Together we can work to prevent these losses by raising awareness and offering help. If you or someone you know is thinking about hurting themselves, please reach out to the National Su***de Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 and speak with a counselor today.
