Who has a prenatal appointment this week? πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Our prenatal visits are unhurried, lasting 30–60 minutes (longer for the first visit), so we can answer your questions and truly get to know you... AND your family! That's why dads and your older child(ren) are always encouraged to come too. Attending prenatal appointments, childbirth classes, and of course birth are amazing ways to strengthen your relationship, gain a deeper understanding of pregnancy and birth and to bond with your baby from the start. It is such an honor and a joy to see husbands become fathers and couples begin their parenthood journey together every week!

πŸ’š Attending appointments is not the only way to strengthen your relationship and bond with you baby - we know work schedules can sometimes get in the way and those are still some incredible and involved dads! 🫢🏻

As parents we get to celebrate all of God's beautiful creations and pass on the importance of caring for our common home to our children. 🌎

Spending time outside during your pregnancy and with your children has so many wonderful benefits!
🌿 A gentle hike outside can be mood-bosting and good for positioning baby
🌿 Plant flowers or a garden and see your kids blossom watching it grow
🌿 Picnic outside for some extra vitamin D
🌿 Birdwatching is a great way to enjoy nature and learn something new
🌿 Join a park clean up or do a litter sweep in your neighborhood to give back
🌱 Bonus - in early labor? Enjoy a nice, calming walk outside!

β˜€οΈπŸ’¦ Just don't forget your sun protection and water!
What's your favorite way to enjoy time outside?

Early labor can be so exciting and at the same time, full of emotions. You're excited, you're anxious, you're just ready to meet πŸ‘πŸΌ your πŸ‘πŸΌ baby! πŸ‘πŸΌ

Support in early labor is all about keeping things calm and not jumping into action too soon - both of you will want to save your energy! So while you may be anxious to get up and moving, trust that your labor is progressing as it should and alternate any activity like walking with rest. Eat easy to digest, nutritious foods and hydrated. You wouldn't run a marathon without fueling your body right?! πŸ’ͺ🏼 And of course, make sure to notify your birth team about how you're feeling so we can prepare to come to you. πŸ€°πŸ½πŸ“²

The births that we get to attend together are always so special. πŸ’ž

🀰🏻 Who will attend my birth?

Our team typically includes one midwife and one student who serves as a trained birth assistant or sometimes both Midwives, Sarah and Cheryl, will be present.

We intentionally serve just 6-8 families per month so that we can build meaningful, one-on-one relationships with you and provide you with the holistic care you deserve. We will get to know you throughout your pregnancy and birth and with Sarah and Cheryl backing each other up, you’ll always have a familiar face by your side.

Pregnant? Call us for a midwifery consultation and to secure your spot as we tend to fill up quickly each month.

Have you ever stubbed your toe and it brought you to tears? Maybe you've been told you have a low pain tolerance since you were a child.

That's okay! It doesn't really apply to the way we approach pain during birth. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

P - When you stub your toe it's annoying and doesn't add any value. Your baby on the other hand... endless joy! Each contraction brings you closer to holding your baby in your arms.
A - Anticipated. The pain of labor is not the same as the pain of an unexpected injury. You have time to prepare emotionally and physically. Taking a childbirth class is a great start!
I - Intermittent. This isn't a pain that never ends. You can rest between contractions and you know that this specific pain of contractions will resolve once labor has ended.
N - Normal. Pain and fear are linked. When we have an injury there is also fear from the unexpected happening. When you have faith in God's perfect plan for birth and your family and know that contractions are a normal and expected part of labor you can manage that. We have pain management techniques to support you through every stage of labor from positioning and massage to water therapy.

We believe in you! Let's plan your birth today.

β€œThe first intervention in birth that a healthy woman takes is when she walks out the front door of her home in labor. from that first intervention, all others will follow.” -Michael Rosenthal, OB/GYN
πŸ‘πŸ’ž
"Although research shows that routine and unnecessary interference in the natural process of labor and birth is not likely to be beneficialβ€”and may indeed be harmfulβ€”most U.S. births today are intervention-intensive. A majority of women surveyed for, "Listening to Mothers III," experienced one or more of the following interventions during labor:
- Continuous electronic fetal monitoring (EFM)(93 percent)
- Restrictions on eating (80 percent)
- IV fluids (62 percent)
- Restrictions on drinking (60 percent)
- Epidural anesthesia (67 percent)
- Artificially ruptured membranes (31 percent)
- Artificial oxytocin augmentation (36 percent)
- Episiotomy (17 percent)"

The word Prodromal comes from the Greek word meaning "precursor." It's sometimes called "false labor," but there's nothing false about what your body is doing or in His perfect design. Your body isn't broken or behind schedule! πŸ’—

Prodromal labor falls somewhere between Braxton-Hicks (a mild tightening that comes and goes) and Early Labor (which will intensify and get closer together.) With prodromal labor contractions don't intensify or get progressively closer together, but they can stick around anywhere from hours to weeks.

Prodromal labor doesn't happen to everyone, it occurs in around 30% of pregnancies and can happen regardless of if this is your first baby, or sixth!

One of the hardest parts of prodromal labor is that it can be emotionally exhausting so it is especially important for partners to remain calm and patient during this time. Partners should encourage rest, gentle movement, hydration and offer reassurance and distractions. Make sure to give your Midwives a call so we can help you assess how you're feeling and offer you more support!

Your baby already knows you. 🀍 Mom and dad's voices are the most familiar sounds to your baby. Talking to your baby and rubbing them gently after birth can have a calming effect. It can also help them transition after birth by reducing stress hormones, as well as improving their breathing and temperature regulation.
