Tensegrity
What’s That, and What does it have to do with My Health?
As you know, proper STRUCTURE is important to maintain balance and stability. In humans and in all animals, motion and health depend on structural integrity as well.
Tensegrity describes the sophisticated, complex nature of the interaction of different components to create a balanced, moveable, yet stable structure.
As a child, my introduction to the idea of structure was with building blocks. I quickly realized that if I did not put them carefully one on top of another they would fall over. I moved on to something like Legos and realized that if they were not put together properly, they fell apart. I then moved onto other things, like spelling and adding things, being pretty sure I had mastered the concept of structure.
Was I Wrong!! Turns out that your bones are NOT like building blocks. Your upright moving body is the result of a complex interplay of tension and compression, using muscles, bones, fascia, ligaments and tendons with your brain pulling the proverbial strings. When this system is in balance, your bones are not bearing your body weight. What? That seems counterintuitive, I know. But this is why some bones wear out and others don’t, even as they seem to bear the same weight! The problem is an out-of-balance, subluxated body, without TENSEGRITY!
I have a tensegrity table on the counter by the front desk, so have a look on your next visit.
