Each year our friends head into the mountains to shoot down their own Christmas trees with shotguns 😁 It's such a fun tradition. It had been about 3 years since we've gone and we had such fun! The 2 year old wasn't super amused lol. But the rest of us loved it 😊 And this year their was even hot chocolate, cookies and a fire pit😍

I wasn't sure we'd get anything from our garden this year! It's our first year here. And even though we added a lot of composted goat p**p, our "soil" seems more like pure clay. I think I could probably make some pottery out of it 😁

That being said, I'm so excited we've actually gotten a few things! The favorite is definitely the raspberries. We go in order of age, youngest to oldest, on who gets the next ripe raspberry 😂

Oh and yes, these raspberries don't produce fruit their first year. This is a 2nd year plant we got from the local Master Gardeners sale !

Something I absolutely love about the prairie is the sky. You can watch storms coming in slowly for hours. Here we got a little summer rain 🌧️ ☀️ It was lovely and cooled off the super hot day!

Then later in the day came a BIG storm with some BIG winds that literally moved our duck coop 😳 It must have been a slow move rather than a fast one because all ducks are alive and well! But wowza!

My intention with this page is to share our farming experience -the good and the bad. I don't want to show a romanticized Instagram version of a farm lol!

That being said...

Farm life gets hard when we lose animals! We are down 3 ducks this week - maybe from heat stroke? Not sure. But it's a terrible feeling. Can't help but wonder if we could have done more for them.

Things get really "real" on a farm. Death is very present all over. But it also gets me thinking. And feeling grateful.

It's a good reminder that the journey is the destination.

Rest in Peace feathered friends 🦆🦆🦆

Maybe it's because he's been on a farm his whole life, but this kid is so natural with animals. He's every animal's best friend. Well, at least he thinks he is (not sure what the animals would say 🤪)
