If you suspect you might be pregnant, taking a pregnancy test is one of the first steps toward understanding your situation. But with different types of tests available, it’s common to feel uncertain about where to start. Should you take an over-the-counter urine test or seek out a blood test from a healthcare provider?

Understanding how these tests work, their benefits, and their limitations can help you decide what’s best for your circumstances. At HeartReach Center, we’re here to walk with you through this process, offering free urine pregnancy testing and additional care when needed.

Urine pregnancy tests are the most commonly used type of pregnancy test. They detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced by the body after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. These tests are widely available at pharmacies, grocery stores, and many centers, including HeartReach (where we offer them free).

At HeartReach, we use a test that is more sensitve than most drugstore options. Our tests are also under quality control. You'll never get an outdated, expired or tampered test.

What about blood tests? Blood tests can measure the exact level of hCG in the body, offering insight into how the pregnancy is progressing, which can be helpful in certain medical situations. The downside? You need a medical provider and resulrs are not instant. A pregnancy blood test in Alaska typically costs $50-80.
