Please congratulate our Thurston/Mason County Employer of the Year for 2024: County Line Fire Pizzeria & Tapas!

David joined Vadis at the end of 2022, having previously been told he couldn’t work due to behavioral challenges. Over the following months, the Vadis team focused on understanding David’s strengths and building a rapport with him. In July 2023, our Thurston/Mason County Program Manager discovered a new restaurant, "County Line Fire Pizzeria & Tapas," opening in David's town and saw an opportunity for him. With the help of Stephanie Vickers, employment consultant, they collaborated with the restaurant owner, Tobie, to secure David a job there after the grand opening in November 2023.

David's responsibilities at the restaurant include folding boxes, cleaning, and setting up tables, which he approaches with enthusiasm. This role not only provides him with work experience but also helps him develop social skills and a sense of belonging in his community. Positive feedback from his boss and coworkers has boosted his confidence, and his interactions with his co-workers have improved his communication skills. David is proud of his achievements and looks forward to his continued journey at County Line Fire Pizzeria & Tapas, where he feels valued and supported in his personal growth and contributions to the community.

Please congratulate our 2024 Kitsap Employer of The Year!

While Marshalls trains on inclusivity and diversity the Silverdale location goes above and beyond that company standard by consistently encouraging and aiding their two Vadis supported employees (one of which has been working there for 7 years!). From the moment their supported employees walk in the front doors to even after they’re clocked out and waiting for their Access rides, Marshalls has made not only their supported employees, but also their Employment Consultants, feel welcomed and like they belong. Both supported employees have made several friendships and been invited to social gatherings outside of work due to the connections Marshalls helps forge. No accommodation is too big of an ask and every new idea is considered, with managers even coming up with their own creative solutions to issues their supported employees may face! Marshalls has even taken it upon themselves to be an advocate for Vadis specifically and helped establish a relationship with their neighboring store, Sierra, which lead to two new job placements!

Each year our fabulous team of employment consultants have the opportunity to nominate an employer in their county that is a wonderful supporter of Vadis and supported employment. Our King County Employer of the Year for 2024 was The City of Seattle.

The City of Seattle employs 98 Supported Employees, including many Vadis clients in several areas including Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Police Department, and the Seattle Municipal Court.

These clients enjoy a stable schedule, livable wages, and excellent benefits. Additionally, they are supported by both natural supports in the workplace by being paired with managers who are understanding and accommodating while encouraging them to succeed and grow, and by Human Resources staff dedicated to ensuring they have the accommodations they need to succeed. Some Vadis clients have worked for the City for up to 30 years!

This year, the direct support shown by Mayor Bruce Harrell this year, in accepting a meeting request from Vadis supported employee Kevan Johnson, as well as his appearance at the monthly Supported Employees meeting at Seattle Municipal Tower, brought excitement and positive morale.

Perhaps most of all, Mayor Harrell inviting the Supported Employees to sit in Council Chambers to hear his 2025 Budget Speech in which he spoke in support of protecting all City Supported Employee jobs through upcoming budget cuts and layoffs brought a lot of comfort to many clients, who now don't have to fear losing their positions in challenging economic times.

Say Hello to John! Having only started a couple months ago, John has already achieved employee of the month at the Five Guys on Tacoma Mall Blvd. John is a lobby attendant, helping Five Guys maintain some of the cleanest lobbies and restrooms in the area. He comes to work with a smile and enjoys keeping the place spotless while also preparing their famous fries. Managers Krys and Joanna have been terrific mentors for John and enjoy his easy-going attitude, chill smile, and silly sense of humor!

Meet Anna! She started working at the Home Depot in Issaquah in April and loves her job! She has been trained on multiple tasks! She has worked in the nursery watering plants, collected carts in the parking lot, worked on go backs, stocking, facing, customer order fulfillment and she provides great customer service! Anna gets along great with her coworkers, and they really love having Anna on the team! We are so excited for you Anna!

Meet Chance! He works with his coworker Gabbi sorting donated DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, Games, and other forms of media for Value Village stores. His knowledge of popular media and collectibles is an asset in making sure no broken or damaged donations make it to the sales floor.

Say hello to Alixx! Alixx recently began his first job as a busser at The Fish Peddler Restaurant on Foss Waterway, and he’s off to a great start. Starting a new job is always exciting, and Alixx was thrilled to receive his very first paycheck, as you can see in the photo. We’re proud of his hard work and look forward to seeing him continue to grow in his new role. Congratulations, Alixx!

Meet Kelly and Cameron, both dedicated employees at Round1 in South Hill Mall. They work alongside their incredible coworker, Davion, who has become an essential natural support for them.

Davion consistently checks in with Kelly and Cameron during their shifts, ensuring they stay on task and offering helpful suggestions when needed. His support has made a significant difference, creating a comfortable environment where Kelly and Cameron feel confident seeking assistance.

Cameron even calls Davion his best friend, and Kelly often tells Davion he's her favorite! Their bond has transformed the workplace into a welcoming space filled with friendship and mutual support.

Thanks to Davion, Kelly and Cameron are not only productive but also excited to go to work, knowing they have a reliable friend by their side.

Harley-Davidson celebrated our client Dennis' 59th birthday. Dennis works hard to keep the offices and lot clean while putting a smile on his coworkers faces. They showed their appreciation with a birthday smoothie!
