A David vs. Goliath Story for You

Mike Burns, RPh, President/CEO of AuBurn Pharmacy, recently made a tough business decision: his successful chain of more than 30 community pharmacies in Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas would no longer participate as an in-network provider with Express Scripts (ESI). As independent pharmacists understand, he felt he had no choice due to unfair PBM financial dynamics.

As a fierce advocate and outspoken leader for community pharmacy at state and national levels, Mike developed a fact-packed presentation that explains the real cost of PBMs. He invites you to download and share the information in “The Middle Men of Healthcare: How Pharmacy Benefit Managers Affect American Healthcare.”

Mike also sent this letter to employers, encouraging them to consider other PBM options that support local community-based pharmacies. And Mike is more than willing to share other ideas and information with you. Just email him at mburns@auburnpharmacies.com.

Local pharmacies are closing — and patients feel it.
On Wednesday, Feb. 4, AuBurn Pharmacy will close all of our Kansas retail location, for one day, to join KPhA and many other pharmacies across Kansas and advocate for PBM reforms that will help keep pharmacies open and care accessible. 💙

After closing up shop today, our owner headed out to deliver meds to a patient 25 minutes out of town on a Saturday when most places were already closed because of the winter storm. We don’t share for praise or sympathy, but to share that this is why supporting independent community pharmacies matter….big box stores don’t show up for you in emergencies, but your local pharmacy does! Stay safe out there!
