Staten Island Opportunity Alliance (SIOA) invites you to attend Staten Island Direct Support Professional (DSP) Appreciation Day.

DSP Recognition Week (September 7-13, 2024) is a nationally recognized week that provides an opportunity to pause, acknowledge, and highlight the dedicated direct support workforce who provide supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This is a free, family friendly event.

For those who are seeking an opportunity, this is the perfect time to act upon it. Attend the PCCS' Job fair that is coming up soon and bring your resume.

Qualifications include being 18 years or older and preferably a High School diploma or the equivalent.

Residential/Day Habilitation staff will require a valid Driver's License along with certifications in SCIP, and AMAP.

The IAC Leadership Award has recognized supervisory level professionals in programs and services designed to support adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This year, IAC announced that they have renamed this award to honor their friend and colleague, Ed Matthews, whose life and legacy personifies exceptional leadership and commitment to people with IDD and their families. The ideal recipient of this award is a leader who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to people/students with IDD and the staff that support them, has made significant contributions to the mission, vision and values of their agency and has gone above and beyond in making a significant difference in the lives of people with IDD.

PCCS is proud to announce that Martin Mathis has won the Ed Matthews Leadership award. Martin has truly exemplified leadership since joining the PCCS team. He brought infectious positivity and energy that immediately made a significant impact within the Employment Services Department. His approach has been hands-on, meaningful, and dedicated to ensuring that both the people we support and the agency as a whole benefit from his contributions.

Martin has consistently gone above and beyond in his role-whether it’s stepping in to support their staff, taking on new initiatives, or offering solutions that move the entire team forward.

His reliability and commitment have set a high standard for all of us, and his energy and enthusiasm has made our team stronger and more resilient.

PCCS hosted an incredible Summer Formal this last Friday, celebrating with people supported, along with staff and families for a night of dancing. The night included a DJ, dinner and appetizers, and much more.

We were so honored and happy to see everyone having such a fun time, and can't wait for the next one.

PCCS would like to thank Disability Unite and the Staten Island Borough President Vito J. Fossella for honoring the work that PCCS is doing. Alexa Donnelly (Deputy Executive Director of PCCS), took to the stage and gave a speech about our gratitude along with celebrating Disability Pride Month.

Today, PCCS celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act! The ADA works to ensure all people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

Join in celebrating this important civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.

At the beginning of July, PCCS and others rallied across the street from Rep. Nicole Malliotakis’ office.

Many gathered to show solidarity and discontent with Medicaid issues, fighting against unjust actions.
