đź A note our cofounder .m.anderson from Sunday Rituals email đŤ
The other day I was on the couch with my laptop and a half cup of tea. One of my kids jumped on the couch to surprise meâand the tea went flying. All over me and my computer.
I knew everything was fine. The tea wasnât super hot. The computer survived.
But my body didnât get the memo. My heart raced. My breath shortened. It took what felt like forever for my breath to calm down.
Â
That moment reminded me:Â
my body was trying to tell me something.
Â
Iâm quick to say âIâm fineâ ( and I love doing that), but the body doesnât lie. It speaks in breath, tension, and heartbeatsâand it often speaks before the mind catches up. For me, it was a sign: I needed not just mental rest, but nervous system softness.
Â
You might need this, too.
If youâre carrying a lotâtoddlers, work, news, whatever lifeâs throwing your wayâyour body might be asking for care, too. A pause. A downshift.
Â
TRY THIS: 4-7-8 Breathing
Itâs simple, and it works. Use it in the moment, or make it part of your wind-down routine:
Â
1. Inhale through your nose & belly rises (4 sec)
2. Hold (7 sec)
3. Exhale slowly through your mouth (8 sec)
Aim for 5â7 rounds.Â
The long exhale tells your nervous system: youâre safe. You can relax.
Â
Try this for 3 nights in a row.Â
Then reply to me!
Iâd love to hear how it goes.
Â
Make this week beautiful for you and those around you âď¸
xx Alicia
