Four heart surgeries, dozens of transfusions, one brave little fighter.
At just 4 years old, Valerio has faced more than many do in a lifetime. Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, he’s needed over two dozen blood transfusions to keep his little heart strong.

Platelets gave his wife a second chance at life. Now, Mike’s commitment to donating is paying that gift forward every day.
At 74, Mike has donated blood and platelets 600 times to help patients battling cancer, trauma, and other urgent health needs. When his wife faced leukemia, the importance of platelets became deeply personal. Today, she is seven years cancer-free because of those lifesaving donations.

Steve didn’t use to donate blood. But now he’s helping organize his 18th blood drive.
His motivation? Family, and the patients who rely on donors like you.
“My daughter started working for Vitalant, and that’s when I realized how important blood donation is,” Steve says. “Now, I’m passionate about it. We’re organizing drive number 18, and I work with the incredible team at Vitalant to make it happen.”

Why do you donate?
Twenty years ago, on his way to visit a friend, Scott heard a Vitalant message asking for blood donors. When his friend wasn’t home, Scott took it as a sign and stepped into a donor center. “It just felt like the right thing to do,” he says.
Soon after, Scott learned his blood type meant he could help patients relying on platelets. Although the longer appointment made him a bit nervous, a simple tip to watch a movie while donating helped him relax.
Two decades later, Scott still gives.
Every Vitalant team member he has met has made him feel like more than just a donor. “I’m proud to give blood products that go directly to patients in need,” he says.
