Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs (CDAP) The Medical University of South Carolina's Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs, known as CDAP, is o What is unique about CDAP?

Our Treatment Philosophy:

No single approach characterizes the Center for Drug and Alcohol Program's (CDAP) treatment approach, since we know from experience that not everyone responds to the same drug and alcohol abuse treatments in the same way. CDAP's treatment philosophy encompasses a variety of biological, psychological and social interventions that have proven effective when treating alcoh

olism or substance abuse. In research studies, the alcohol and drug abuse treatments we use have been shown to be effective in reducing risk of relapse. Our physicians and clinical staff have received specialized training in using these treatments with drug and or alcohol addicted individuals. Patients are provided with several different substance abuse treatments, which maximize the chances that they will benefit from their drug or alcohol treatment experience.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month! The NCADD's 2017 theme is "Connecting the Dots: Opportunties for Recovery" is designed to draw attention to the many opportunities individuals, families and communities have to help prevent teen alcohol use. Reducing underage drinnking is critical to securing a healthy future for America's youth and in a society that continually promotes alcohol and drug use at every level, the need is great to provide education about the dangers of alcohol and/or drug buse for children and to connect the dots that can lead to recovery. Outreach and Prevention efforts at MUSC's Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs reaches 3,500 students, parents and teachers each year about the chronic, progressive disease of alcoholism. We must rely on philanthropy to conduct the Just Say Know:Understanding the Science of Addiction program offered throught the state. If you would like to help us make an impact on advancing outreach and prevention of alcoholism, please make a gift to MUSC's Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs! http://www.alcoholanddrugabuse.org/giving/

Sixth graders listened attentively as a recovering alcoholic told the story of the 9 years he spent as an addict. They asked him to describe his worst day, to predict what would have happened had he not gotten help, and to explain the difference between "medicine" and "drugs." He shared his personal story as part of a program offered by MUSC each year. The team of educators teaches our 6th-8th grade students the science behind drug and alcohol abuse and empowers them with coping strategies. Seeing -- and holding -- a human brain is a highlight of the program, students say. It is offered by MUSC's Center for Drug and Alcohol Program (CDAP/ASD). Parents are invited to meet with the team of educators Thursday morning at 8:45 to ask questions and hear what students have learned this week.
