MAJOR SNOWFALL THIS WEEKEND! Here are updated forecast totals as of Thursday morning for the FOX23 viewing area: ❄️❄️❄️

No big changes have been made since last night, but I've added an area that could be a "sweet spot" for heavy snowfall that could exceed a foot east of Tulsa. For the metro area, this will likely be one of our most significant January snowstorms.

Sleet may cut into snow totals south of Highway 412 and especially south of I-40. The heaviest snow is likely to fall Saturday morning and again late that night. These are the totals expected once it all wraps up by Sunday PM. It may difficult to measure due to the drier nature to the snow and gusty north winds.

Whether you get 5" or 15", the impacts will be similar for travel thru the weekend. Expect slick/hazardous travel with snow drifts of a few feet on untreated roads in some cases. This snow/sleet won't go away fast either... I don't have us getting above freezing until Tuesday afternoon. 🥶

When it comes to health, I have promoted for a LONG time to try and do the right things naturally. Food, exercise, etc.. Follow along as we build a small farm. There's a ton to learn and we will make mistakes, but it has been one of the most rewarding endeavors of my life so far. From the garden, orchard, bee hives, and chickens, the goal will be to be predominately self sustaining. The vast majority will be located on 5 to 6 acres of land, but could very easily be done on a smaller parcel.

Cocos Coop and Farm is a small, family-run backyard farm featuring four thriving flocks of happy hens, a bountiful garden, and an up and coming fruitful orchard. Follow for fun, informational videos, farm-fresh eggs, or garden produce.

Lets talk about weight loss....

At the end of the day, weight loss is calories in and calories out. If your activity levels drop, due to age, health, work, etc, then your caloric intake must lower.

You can go online and do a Basal Metabolic Rate calculator to determine your caloric needs based on age, s*x, height and weight.

Foods to avoid if your activity is lower: Rice, Breads, Pasta, Potatoes, and the vast majority of processed foods/cereals.

The number 1 complaint I hear when interviewing patients is "I can't lose weight because I can't exercise." This is just an uneducated view on basic nutrition.

Losing weight increases mobility, decreases wear and tear on joints, improves cardiovascular health, and decreases risk of Diabetes.

Overall health comes from appropriate weight and exercise. Weight loss is just the first step....

🌿 Embracing Natural Remedies for Holiday Blues 🌿

The holiday season can bring joy, but for some, it may also trigger feelings of sadness or stress. If you're looking for natural ways to lift your spirits, consider these remedies:

1️⃣ Sunshine Therapy ☀️: Take a brisk walk outdoors and soak up some natural sunlight. Sun exposure boosts serotonin levels, promoting a sense of well-being.

2️⃣ Aromatherapy 🌺: Essential oils like lavender, citrus, or peppermint can have mood-enhancing effects. Diffuse them in your space or add a few drops to a relaxing bath.

3️⃣ Mindful Moments 🧘‍♀️: Practice mindfulness through activities like meditation or yoga. These techniques can help reduce stress and improve your overall mental well-being.

4️⃣ Connect with Nature 🌳: Spend time in nature, whether it's a walk in the park or a hike. The calming effect of the natural environment can positively impact your mood.

5️⃣ Herbal Teas 🍵: Enjoy calming herbal teas like chamomile or passionflower. These can have soothing effects on the nervous system.

6️⃣ Healthy Nutrition 🥦: Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole foods. Nutrient-dense foods can positively influence your mood and energy levels.

7️⃣ Exercise Routine 💪: Engage in regular physical activity, as it releases endorphins – the body's natural mood lifters.

8️⃣ Digital Detox 📵: Take breaks from social media and screens. Limiting exposure to negative content can contribute to a more positive mindset.

Remember, it's okay to seek support from friends, family, or professionals if needed. Prioritize self-care and give yourself the gift of a healthy and happy holiday season! 🌈
