Delaware Health Information Network Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN) was the first live, statewide health information exchange in the nation.

DHIN, the nation's first statewide health information exchange, delivers more than 14 million results annually for more than 3 million patients in Delaware and beyond. Launched in 2007, today it serves all of Delaware’s acute care hospitals and nearly 100% of the state’s medical providers. More than 14 million clinical results and reports are delivered through DHIN each year. There are over three

million unique patients with results on DHIN, including patients from all 50 states. DHIN shares real-time clinical information to improve patient outcomes, eliminate the duplication of services and reduce the cost of healthcare. In addition to its role as Delaware’s health information exchange, DHIN also powers the State’s Health Care Claims Database. The database collects healthcare claims, enrollment, and provider data from Medicare, Medicaid and the seven largest commercial health insurers in the State of Delaware, making it the single largest repository of claims data Delaware has ever had. The Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN) was enacted by the Delaware General Assembly in 1997 as a public-private partnership for the benefit of all citizens of Delaware to advance the creation of a statewide health information network and to address Delaware's needs for timely, reliable and relevant health care information.

Better Communication for Better Healthcare

DHIN creates efficiencies for doctors, patients, practices, and those who send them clinical information.

It eliminates the need for slower and more expensive delivery methods. Most importantly, DHIN improves patient care, enhances patient privacy, and improves practice efficiency.

Delaware Health Information Network’s roots reach back to 1997 when the Delaware General Assembly enacted the organization as a public/private partnership. The objective was, and remains today, to advance the creation of a statewide health information network that addresses our state’s needs for timely, reliable and relevant health care information.

In 2007, DHIN “went live” – meaning it became the first operational statewide health information exchange in the nation. During the past ten years, DHIN has developed a consistent track record for the safe and secure delivery of clinical results (lab and pathology), reports (both radiology and transcribed), and face sheets (hospital admission, discharge, and transfer data, including demographic and billing information).
