🌟They told you about the contractions, but did they tell you about the expansion? Did they tell you how your body would open to make way for the whole universe to pass through? Did they tell you how your heart would explode with a love bigger than anything you’ve ever known as you pulled your baby to your chest?

🌟They told you about the ring of fire but did they tell you about the crown of stars? Did they mention that there’s a moment when your baby enters the world and you leave your body and touch the heavens and become the light of a million galaxies? Did they tell you how the pain of stretching to receive your child would be more exquisite than any sensation you've felt?

🌟They told you would scream but did they tell you about how would you roar? Did they tell you about the power that would rise up from your belly as you called your baby forth with your mighty voice? Did they tell you how you would embody the wild woman within you as breathe fire with your song?

🌟They told you would bleed, but did they tell you how that sacred blood wouldn't scare you? How you would feel grateful for that magical liquid of life as it trickled down your leg - how you would honour its flow and how it would help you heal a lifetime of hating your body's bleeding cycle.

Can say "This bill will make [me/ my midwife/ my friend] illegal."

Ask legislators questions about any part in the bill, SB1033 SD1, that is unclear. Once they realize they can't answer those questions, they will want to change it to a working group.
Suggest a Working Group- where traditional birth attendants and homebirth consumers are voting members of the working group. It is clear that we need a more comprehensive solution that includes ALL voices, and it is far too complex to try to resolve before the end of Session. It really would be a disservice to pass legislation without fully understanding how it will impact people on all islands.

Offer specific amendments, "remove p. 12 lines 9 and 10 which requires all midwives to get full licensure (and certification) by 2024, essentially nullifying the grandmother clause."

If you are a Hawaiian mother, explain how this would affect your ability to choose your preferred midwife. The bill states that it is not supposed to impede in Hawaiian cultural practices, so if it does, provide examples of HOW it does.

If you are religious, explain how this would affect your religious freedom.

If you are a homebirth parent, explain how this would affect your ability to choose who is present at your own birth. Explain why you actually WANT a midwife who happens to be uncertified.

Whichever angle you take, it is important to spell out for them exactly WHY it would make you/your midwife illegal- they seem to have trouble making that connection. They really need to hear "p. __ line ___ would make her/me illegal because ______"
