Near seasonable temperatures and lower humidity can be expected today through Wednesday night. A return of southerly winds Thursday will result in a warming trend and increasing humidity for the 4th of July on through the weekend. Chances of showers and thunderstorms will arrive Sunday.

The calendar doesn't lie. The weather seems to have received the message, as well.

Summer is here.

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring when the sun's apparent path is farthest north in the sky.

This day marks the official start of astronomical summer and is characterized by the maximum amount of daylight hours.

Happy Summer Weekend

** Severe Storms Are Likely On Wednesday Afternoon and Night **

The daily blog and weather video have been updated on your Beau Dodson Weather app. Please see that on the www weathertalk com website or on your app.

We do have a level two and three risk of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon and evening. The scale goes from one to five (one being the lowest).

Remember, a severe thunderstorm is one that produces 58 mph wind gusts or higher and/or quarter-size hail or larger. And/or a tornado.

The primary concern will be damaging wind and hail. I can't rule out a couple of short-lived tornadoes embedded in the line of thunderstorms.

Overall, the tornado risk remains low, but not zero.

Monitor your Beau Dodson Weather app alerts.

The SPC did expand this farther south and east over the past 24 hours. Adjustments are still possible.

Showers and thunderstorms are moving north-northeastward through Western Kentucky, with isolated showers and storms elsewhere. A few of these storms may be strong to severe. Heavy rainfall will accompany these storms, any training motion can develop flooding issues.

16/06/2025

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 PM CDT for southeast Missouri and from 10 AM CDT until midnight for parts of southern Illinois along and south of Highway 13 and all of western Kentucky.

A flash flood watch is in effect today.

Slow-moving thunderstorms could produce areas of flash flooding.

Many areas will not have issues, but a few spots might.

Thunderstorms, with this much moisture in the atmosphere, could produce one to three inches of rain per hour. These types of rain totals can quickly cause ditches and roadways to briefly flood.

Avoid flooded roadways. Turn around and find an alternative route.
