Baking Soda The Top Natural Material And Its Amazing Uses

What is Baking Soda, and where does it come from?

Baking Soda is a natural mineral, while it’s pure and simple, it’s also an astoundingly versatile, multi-purpose product.
Baking Soda is a salt composed of a sodium cation and a bicarbonate anion (NaHCO3), which indicates that it contains one sodium atom (Na), one hydrogen atom (H), one carbon atom (C), and three oxygen atoms (O).
Sodium bicarbonate is a white solid that is crystalline, but often appears as a fine powder .
Initially it comes out of the ground in the form of minerals nahcolite and trona. Nahcolite is a naturally occurring sodium bicarbonate that does not contain chemical additives. It is considered the purest form of baking soda and commonly forms when carbon dioxide reacts with the mineral trona, typically in evaporated lake basins
Trona is refined into soda ash (aka sodium carbonate), then turned into baking soda (aka sodium bicarbonate), among other things. The process to be formed is by being dissolved in water and treated with carbon dioxide. Sodium bicarbonate precipitates as a solid from this solution , forming 'Pure, Safe and Natural baking Soda.
The world’s largest deposit of trona is in the state of Wyoming. The area produced more than 17 million tons of the mineral in 2018, for export around the world.
As great as its production is, so is the use of this natural material!

Natural Health Prevention and Treatments:

-Anti-inflammatory prevention.
Research shows that when consumed, the antacid action of baking soda may help shift pro-inflammatory immune cells in the body to those who fight inflammation.
-Prevent kidney stones.
These organs remove waste and extra water from your body. If you have chronic kidney disease from diabetes, high blood pressure, or other causes, acid can build up in your body. Sodium bicarbonate can bring the acid levels down and may help slow bone loss and build muscles. It’s important to work closely with your doctor if you want to try this. Scientists are still figuring out exactly when and how this works.
-Prevent cavities and tartar, help whitening teeth and refresh your mouth.
Baking soda is alkaline, and it will neutralize mouth acids, thereby preventing further erosion. Baking soda will also help to remineralize the enamel layer and close micro gaps. Baking soda helps remove plaque, prevent tartar, keep teeth white and kill “bad” bacteria in the mouth. It could also help reduce odor. Note: ( Is advisable to use it periodically and not consistently for a long period of time).
- Natural treatment for better digestion ,for heartburn.
Baking soda is alkaline so will neutralize stomach acid and help the activation of some important enzymes we need for digestion.
If you are using sodium bicarbonate as an antacid, it should be taken 1 to 2 hours after meals.
You can make homemade antacid by mixing a half-teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water and drinking it slowly
-Anti-cancer properties:
Studies have shown that use of baking soda slowed down the growth of cancer cells by reducing the acidity of their outer layer.
-Baking soda can increase the oxygen in our body.
-Prevents gut attacks by reducing the formation of the uric acid crystals.
Monitor your urine acidity and take the mixture of a half-teaspoon baking soda in a cup of water and drink it slowly. Note: ( Is advisable to use it periodically and not consistently for a long period of time).
-Improves athletic performance:
Baking soda can reduce the high lactic acid that is a result of high intensity in exercise
-Treating Discomfort During Cancer Treatments:
Some research shows that baking soda may help chemotherapy medicines work more effectively by making the environment for tumors less acidic. Swishing your mouth with a combination of baking soda, salt, and water can help ease throat discomfort, and nausea caused by radiation or chemotherapy.
-Eases Pain:
Sodium bicarbonate may boost the pain-killing powers of lidocaine used in epidurals.
-Helps sinusitis:
Put a tablespoon of baking soda and a teaspoon of sea salt in 2 cups of boiled water, stir it well to be dissolved and get the vapors into your sinuses.
- Natural Skin relief :
for insect bites, poison ivy and sun irritation. Rinse the area with water and use a Baking Soda paste by combining 3 parts Baking Soda to 1 part water. Apply it to the affected area and let it dry. Wash it off and repeat if needed.
-Nail infection.
If you have a mild nail infection, you may consider a baking soda and water soak, as baking soda has antifungal properties.
- Natural Hair care : For squeaky clean hair, use a teaspoon of Baking Soda mixed in your palm with your favorite shampoo. Shampoo as usual and rinse thoroughly. The Baking Soda helps remove the build-up from conditioners, mousses and sprays to give you naturally clean hair.
-Stop the cravings:
If you crave sweets, or salty snacks, rinse your mouth with one-teaspoon baking soda dissolved in a glass of warm water. Don’t swallow the mixture; spit it out. Your craving should calm down.
-Facial Scrub:
Try Baking Soda as an invigorating, yet gentle, facial scrub. Apply a paste of 3 parts Baking Soda to 1 part water in a gentle circular motion after washing your face with soap and water. Rinse clean for a fresh-scrubbed face!

-Septic Tank
If you’ve got a septic tank, you should know how Baking Soda can help keep your septic system running smoothly. When added to your septic system on a regular basis Baking Soda keeps the pH of the water in your septic system at a near neutral pH level, which is ideal for the beneficial bacteria that live there. These bacteria break down and digest the organic wastes in your septic tank, allowing a clarified liquid effluent to flow out into the drain field. A neutral pH level is ideal for the bacteria, however use of some household cleaners, bleaches and drain openers often may alter the pH of your septic system significantly. If the pH environment of the septic tank becomes too hostile for the bacteria, they die off. Then the organic wastes accumulate, eventually overflowing and clogging the drain pipes of your system. That means expensive professional pumping of your septic system.

What can baking soda not be used for?
Baking soda is a versatile household cleaner that can be used to remove stains and neutralize odors. However, there are some things you should not clean with baking soda, including:
Gold-plated items, such as utensils, dishes, or drinkware. Baking soda is too abrasive for gold, which is a soft metal. It can damage the finish and cause discoloration.
Ceramic stove tops. Baking soda can scratch and damage ceramic glass. It can also leave a white film that is difficult to remove.
Wooden surfaces. Baking soda can damage the finish and destroy the wood.
Surfaces with deep grooves or cracks. Baking soda leaves behind a white, dusty residue that can build up.
Oven doors. Instead, use lemon or white vinegar.
Baking soda is safe and effective for cleaning glass, chrome, steel, enamel, and plastic. It is non-toxic and can help remove stuck-on stains.
Is baking soda safe to use around children and pets?
Baking soda is generally considered safe to use around children and pets. It is a non-toxic and natural substance that is commonly used in food and personal care products. However, as with any household product, it is important to use baking soda in a responsible and safe manner.
While baking soda is not harmful if ingested in small amounts, it can be irritating to the eyes and skin if contact occurs. Therefore, it is important to keep baking soda out of reach of young children and pets to prevent accidental ingestion or exposure.
In addition, some people and pets may be sensitive or allergic to baking soda. If you or your pet experiences any adverse reactions such as itching, swelling, or redness after contact with baking soda, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
Overall, baking soda is considered safe for use in and around the house, as long as it is used appropriately and kept out of reach of young children and pets.

A Natural Way to Improve the Air Quality in the House.

There is a Natural and Inexpensive Way to clean the air we breathe in our homes.
Houseplants!

Many people are not aware of the incredible abilities of ordinary houseplants to improve the microclimate in their homes. They contribute to creating a cleaner atmosphere, supplying oxygen, stabilizing air humidity and removing toxins.
When you breathe, your body takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. During photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. This opposite pattern of gas use makes plants and people natural partners. Adding plants to interior spaces can increase oxygen levels. At night, photosynthesis ceases, and plants typically respire like humans, absorbing oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. But is not only the carbon dioxide, the the air in our home is more toxic than the air outside! Toxic air pollutants including benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and ammonia, are all around us! .
A study by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in association with the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) in 1989, researched ways to clean the air in sealed environments . Its results suggested that, in addition to absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen through photosynthesis, certain common indoor plants may also provide a natural way of removing volatile organic pollutants (benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene were tested).
In another study published in May 2021 in the journal Environmental Research, scientists studied 323 students and found that houseplants were linked to feelings of "being away while at home" providing a staycation for the mind that improves mental health.
Here is a list of some indoor plants that can contribute to purify the air in the house:

-Aloe Vera.
The advantages of aloe vera are widely established. On the other hand, many people might not be familiar with its air-cleaning and oxygen-increasing qualities. The ability of the aloe vera plant to remove airborne pollutants like benzene and aldehydes is well known. It differs from other plants in that it also releases oxygen at night, which makes it a great choice for beds and other small places.

-Dragon Tree (Dracaena Marginata)
A tough, palm-like plant that filters out benzene, formaldehyde, and TCE (trichloroethene).

-English Ivy (Hedera Helix)
A low grower that is also suitable for hanging baskets. It removes benzene, formaldehyde, and TCE.

-Gerbera Daisy (Gerbera Jamesonii)
In order for it to bloom, Gerbera daisy needs bright sun for a few hours, ideally in the morning. It reduces the benzene, formaldehyde, and TCE levels in the air.

-Bamboo Palm (Chamaedorea Seifrizii)
A low-maintenance palm that filters out benzene, formaldehyde, and TCE. It is not toxic to pets.

-Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema Modestum)
A slow-growing plant that is valued for its color variations. It reduces the level of benzene and formaldehyde in the air.

-Golden Pothos (Scindapsus Aureus) or Money plant
Easy-to-grow vining plant with waxy leaves. It filters out benzene, formaldehyde, and TCE.

-Green Spider Plant (Chlorophytum Elatum)
A popular hanging plant that propagates prolifically and is good for formaldehyde removal. It is not toxic to pets.

-Snake Plant (Sansevieria Trifasciata)
Also known as Mother-in-Law’s Tongue, this tough succulent filters out benzene, formaldehyde, and TCE.

-Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
Probably the most ubiquitous and well-known of the air-purifying plants, it reduces the level of benzene, formaldehyde, and TCE.

-Weeping Fig (Ficus Benjamina)
One of the taller air-purifiers, the ficus removes formaldehyde.

So having indoor plants is a natural way to clean our air in the house, make it more beautiful and feel better!

Do we need dietary supplements?
The Answer is Yes!

Unfortunately even if we follow a healthy lifestyle ,a healthy diet and feel young and strong, we still need at least some supplements to supplement — meaning to enhance benefits already provided by eating a well-rounded diet.
Nowadays the environmental pollution and the complicated lifestyle causes different kinds of health issues to everyone. It is impossible to have perfect health with the real meaning of it : perfect physical, emotional and mental health.
Additionally even if we eat healthy It is very difficult to get all the nutrients of the food because most likely the food is processed full of refined carbohydrates, sugars and the soil is depleted rob the plants of essential nutrients. Pesticides used in farming, plus chemicals found in our water supply, can drastically increase our need for extra vitamins and minerals. These chemicals create free radicals that attack our digestive and immune system.
Furthermore our history of eating processed junk food, and stress contribute to poor digestion and other health disorders and makes it difficult for our bodies to extract all the nutrients from food.
Every year we age, malabsorption becomes a bigger problem as our body does not have the same capability to break down and absorb nutrients.
In conclusion a healthy balanced diet often provides a source of vitamins and minerals, but we can never get the recommended amount of important nutrients from food alone. Thus taking good quality supplements on top of our healthy diet may prove beneficial and ensure that our body has the nutrients it needs each day. In addition, supplementation can help decrease your risk of chronic disease and reduce your long term health care costs.

The Most Famous Fermented Vegetable is:
Cabbage or Sauerkraut , Why? And how to Make it at Home?
Lacto-fermented cabbage is delicious, easy-to-digest packed with nutrients and simple to make at home especially this time of the year (summer time) because of the hot and humid conditions..
Fermented cabbage is considered one of the healthiest foods. It's a great combination of prebiotics, fibers and probiotics. This increase in Lactic acid, bowel movements and enzymes, enhance nutrients, helps our microflora (the balance in good and bad bacteria in our intestines), supports our immune system and spike vitamins ( C, K2 ).

You will need: Clean jars, fresh cabbage, non chlorinated water, and salt

How to Make it :
Take fresh cabbage and cut it into pieces on a clean surface ( smaller pieces make it easier to handle). Place them in a jar by gradually pressing them with the back of a wooden spoon.
Bring water to boil ( the ratio to water and cabbage is 3 liters / 4 pounds and the ratio to water and salt is 1 liter / 2 tablespoon salt ).
Add the salt into water and stir it well to be dissolved.
Pour the salted water into the jar with the cabbage pieces until completely covered.
Optionally you can add pieces of garlic, peppers, bay leaves and any other species you like to give an extra flavor.
Put a cloth or plastic coverings, place the jars on the kitchen counter and let it sit for at least a week. Then place them in the refrigerator and remember the fermentation keeps on going!

Tips: Boil some extra water before you put the salt and use it to rinse the jars, the spoons and the surfaces you will use. When you cut the cabbage, crush the pieces with your hands, it softens them so it is easier to handle. How long it will take for the cabbage to ferment depends on the conditions, hot and humid speeds up the procedure, and your preference of the flavor you like. If you will already have homemade sauerkraut you can add some of the leftover juice to the new and speed up the procedure. Put a cloth, paper or a pan under the jars at the beginning of the fermentation because of the dripping juice. Don't worry when an ugly smell comes out of it , it is the fermentation ! The only bad sign to see is mold, so from time to time check out for that. You can use any kind of salt , but a good quality is better.
You can combine in your fermentation all kinds of vegetables and spices according to your tastes. And you can eat the Sauerkraut with all kinds of foods !

Fermented foods health Benefits!
The fermentation process and the resulting fermented products have recently attracted scientific interest. Fermented foods are preserved using an age-old process that not only boosts the food's shelf life and nutritional value but can give your body a dose of healthful probiotics and live microorganisms crucial to good digestion. Fermented vegetables are easier to digest, rich in nutrients, safe, and good for the microbiota. Among other things, fermentation reduces carbohydrates as well as some components (oligosaccharides) that cause flatulence and digestion problems. Fermentation makes the nutrients that are present in vegetables available, a process called “bioavailability”.
Lacto-fermentation can also destroy or neutralize several toxic substances such as cyanide , phytates, and saponins !
Microorganisms or Probiotics ,(Digestion depends largely on the microbiota, also known as the second brain) contributing to the fermentation has recently been associated with many health benefits. For example Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have been some of the most studied microorganisms. During fermentation, these bacteria synthesize vitamins like B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 and K and minerals, produce biologically active peptides with enzymes such as proteinase and peptidase, break down some of the large molecules that are difficult to assimilate by our digestive system and remove some non-nutrients.
Peptides like conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are known to have a blood pressure lowering effect, sphingolipids have anti-carcinogenic and anti-microbial properties, while bioactive peptides exhibit anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory , opioid antagonist, and anti-allergenic effects. So eating fermented foods together with a meal helps to absorb nutrients from other foods through the effect of enzymes.
Lacto-fermentations are prebiotic foods , meaning that they are beneficial to the microorganisms in the digestive system.Indeed, fermented vegetables are rich in fiber and are very digestible. Consumption of prebiotics is believed to be connected to a better immune system and may also help reduce inflammation

Put fermented foods in your diet! They are a great source of probiotics, prebiotics , they naturally support and strengthen our body in many ways and most importantly they are delicious!!!
In a future article I will show you how to safely and easily ferment vegetables at home.

The Most Natural Way to Maintain Optimal Health
Is a Healthy diet!

What we eat, or the food we consume is the main “fuel” that our body uses to function. For this reason the better quality and reasonable quantity of food the better our body functions.
So what is a Quality Nutrition Food ?
Generally speaking, quality food is the food that is natural, pure and has nutrients.

A high quality food is Fat. It's a major source of energy.
Fat helps you absorb vitamins, minerals and is needed to build cell membranes, especially in nerves and the brain. It is essential for blood clotting, muscle movement, and inflammation.
But there is “good”, ”bad” and in between kinds of fat.
Saturated fat, trans fat, and industrial made trans fat are the bad guys.
Good fats are monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated or essential fatty acids .
Monounsaturated fats are found in olive oil, avocados , most nuts and seeds, (sesame sunflower, pumpkin etc.. ).
Good sources of omega-3 fatty acids include fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines, flaxseeds, and un-hydrogenated soybean oil.
“In between” fats are the saturated ones. Common sources of saturated fat include red meat, whole milk and other whole-milk dairy foods, cheese and coconut oil. A diet rich in saturated fats can drive up total cholesterol. For that reason, most nutrition experts recommend limited consumption .

Vegetables and Fruits are a high quality food!
Vegetables are full of essential vitamins, fiber, minerals, and antioxidants that provide huge health benefits to your body.
Specifically dark green leafy vegetables are considered one of the healthiest foods on the planet! As whole food they offer the most nutrition per calorie. Of all the food groups analyzed by a team of Harvard University researchers, greens turned out to be associated with the strongest protection against major chronic diseases, including the risk for both heart attacks and strokes for every additional daily serving.
Vegetables and Fruits have a high concentration of antioxidants that protect our body and brain from oxidative stress, which can damage our body cells, tissues and organs.
Cruciferous vegetables ( arugula, bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, radish, turnips..etc) may potentially prevent Dna damage and metastatic cancer spread, can activate defenses against pathogens and pollutants, can help to prevent lymphoma, boost our liver detox enzymes, target breast cancer stem cells, and reduce the risk of prostate cancer progression. They contain sulforaphane, a substance that is an anticancer agent and may also protect our brain and our eyesight, reduce nasal allergy inflammation, manage type 2 diabetes, and was recently found to help treat autism.
Those are only a few of the many benefits that vegetables and fruits provide. In a future article i will analyze other ways that we can naturally improve our health with fermented vegetables.

Protein is an important part of a healthy diet.
Protein is a molecule made up of hundreds of amino acids. . Protein is the worker bee of our cells , helping the tissues and organs in our body form and function. Your body uses amino acids to build and repair muscles and bones and to make hormones and enzymes, oxygenates red blood cells and is an energy source.
The quality of a protein is determined by the amount of essential amino acid it contains, and how easily your body can digest and absorb it.
Animal proteins such as meat, poultry, fish, dairy and eggs are regarded as quality proteins because they contain sufficient amounts of all of the essential amino acids and you can digest them better than proteins found in most whole plant foods. The nutritional quality of animal proteins is not all equal even though they are all highly digestible. Whey protein is considered the highest quality protein, while eggs are the next best. In fact, some believe eggs to be a nearly perfect food. Milk and fish are also better sources of protein than beef.
Beans, nuts and whole grains are quality plant proteins. In most cases, plant foods must be combined at the same meal to enable you to absorb sufficient quantities of essential amino acids. For example eating any combination of legumes and vegetables with grains and nuts, will provide all of the amino acids you need.
While we analyzed quality food to consume for improving our optimal Health it is important to also talk about the food to avoid for better well-being.
A diet with highly processed foods, refined sugars, unhealthy fats, and an abundance of artificial additives and preservatives is typically low in essential nutrients, vitamins, and fiber, while being high in calories. Consuming such a diet can lead to nutritional deficiencies, poor immune system, allergies , hormone disturbance, weight gain, and an increased risk of many diseases.
A diet rich in processed foods is also harmful to the brain. Many studies have found a correlation between a diet high in "processed sugars" and impaired brain function.
It is important to note that individual susceptibility to nutrition and diet can vary, and not everyone will experience the same degree of strength or weakness. Other factors (which will be discussed in future articles) such as exercise and healthy lifestyle are related to our well being. However, adopting a Healthy High Quality Diet can significantly contribute to better overall health.
