Faith is a very broad term. The ego naturally wants things. Whether they are at the top of a thousand step staircase or sitting there right in front of you. “What if’s”, Fears, Insecurities or doubts may creep into our minds. Uncertainty in what to Do or Not to do OR which way to Go or Not to Go can be paralyzing. There’s nothing wrong with sitting with a decision and being patient. You take this time to tap into your intuition, gut, mind and heart. You sit as long as you need to sit. Maybe you ask for guidance. Maybe you crunch numbers or layout a timeline. Maybe you weigh the pros/cons. Maybe you evaluate the risks and rewards. Maybe you just get on your yoga mat.
For thousands of Years, yoga has been a tool to slow down. The many yogic techniques focus the mind on one thing. This could be parts of the body, movements, sensations, the breath, thoughts, or emotions. In this “slowed down” state of mind there is less chitter chatter of the mind and from this process there can be more clarity. Having less thoughts or clearer thoughts allows you to have more awareness of all the layers of yourself or your koshas. These layers include your physical body, energetic body, wisdom body, personality body (ego) and the bliss body. By increasing your awareness of these layers you are in a sense gathering data on yourself, kind of like the way you might gather data by crunching numbers or laying out a timeline to make a decision or to take a step.
After you have sat with your decision making process and have done everything you can in stillness/inaction, there comes the time to move forward if you have decided this is the best decision for you. It doesn’t mean that the “What if’s”, Fears, Insecurities or doubts have been erased, but you have done everything you can. Then to initiate the process of “stepping”, you might have to tap into the layer that is outside of yourself. That layer is Faith. You might call it Trust. You don’t need to see the whole staircase. You don’t need to know all possible outcomes, but you take the first step. It might be a baby step or it might be a leap. Whatever it is...you have trusted and you have Faith. Trust yourself. Trust your Faith.
