Can Physical Exercise Help with Peripheral Arterial Disease?
https://youtu.be/q1ZDGt5Jd1A

According to Dr. Rundback, “Physical activity is a key component of the care for patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease. If you have pain when walking, and this is due to blocked arteries, one of the key things to do is to continue to walk through that pain. Over time, people can often increase their tolerance and walk further before the pain begins. This is effective, particularly when combined with medications as prescribed by doctors such as ourselves here at American Endovascular & Amputation Prevention.” Learn more today at https://americanendovascular.com/is-peripheral-arterial-disease-treatable/.

According to Healthline - Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is most common in adults over 50 but can also affect younger people.

The risk of developing PAD is four times higher for people who smoke than for nonsmokers.

Peripheral Arterial Disease is a type of Peripheral Vascular Disease.

PAD is a circulatory condition that causes a narrowing of the arteries. It can lead to poor circulation in your extremities, typically the legs. In an associated condition called atherosclerosis, arteries stiffen due to plaque buildup in the arteries and blood vessels. Both conditions decrease blood flow to your extremities and can result in pain.
Reduced blood flow in your extremities can cause:

- numbness and tingling
- weakness
- pain
- swelling

In time, it can lead to nerve and tissue damage.

Without treatment, reduced blood flow and plaque in your carotid arteries may result in a stroke. Your carotid arteries are the major blood vessels that deliver blood to your brain. If plaque builds up in the arteries of your heart, you’re at risk of having a heart attack.

What Can You Do to Prevent Peripheral Arterial Disease?
https://youtu.be/w6vQsPDW-FA

According to Dr. Rundback, “Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is caused by the hardening of the arteries. People are very familiar with this issue when it affects the heart arteries, called Coronary Artery Disease, and results in a heart attack. PAD can also affect the neck arteries, which can result in a stroke. The same hardening of the arteries causes blockages in the leg arteries and results in pain when walking or, in more severe cases, pain at rest that wakes you from sleep. It may even cause wounds that don’t heal, gangrene, and amputation. Learn more about PAD at https://americanendovascular.com/is-peripheral-arterial-disease-treatable/.

Do all uterine fibroids cause symptoms?

Uterine fibroids (also known as leiomyomas or myomas) are noncancerous tumors that form in the uterus. Though small fibroids may cause no symptoms, many women experience pain and other problems with large fibroids. Heavy menstrual bleeding is common, along with frequent urination, constipation, and even anemia.

It is important to understand fibroid symptoms so you can seek help from a specialist if needed.

Studies show that roughly 20 – 80% of women develop uterine fibroids or myomas by the time they reach 50. Fibroids generally appear during childbearing years but can form at any age. African American women and women with family members who have fibroids are more likely to develop them as well. Women often ask us how their period will change after they have Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE). Your first menstruation after Uterine Fibroid Embolization is usually better, but that is not always the case.

By your second cycle, it will be better, and then your third one will be even better.

It can take some time for the volume of bleeding to decrease with each cycle. Eventually, your menstruation becomes regular and much lighter. Additionally, patients begin to notice a decrease in uterus size.

The American Heart Association shares an article on food insecurity linked to increased heart risks for people with Peripheral Artery Disease.

Here are a few highlights of their article:
✔️ People with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) who live in a food desert, which is a community with low levels of access to retail outlets selling healthy and affordable foods, were 17% more likely to experience death, heart attack, or stroke compared with those who had adequate access to healthy, nutrition-rich food.
✔️ People with PAD living in food deserts were less likely to have a car and more likely to be Black or Hispanic, live in urban areas, and have chronic kidney disease, Type 2 diabetes, or high blood pressure.
✔️ Women with PAD were less likely to receive optimal medical treatment and more likely to be diagnosed with malnutrition and other chronic health conditions regardless of food access.

Pedal loop interventions can help with limb salvage and limb preservation in patients with non-healing wounds due to diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and other conditions. The pedal loop consists of arteries in the foot that are responsible for supplying blood to the toes and the heel. Patients with blockages in the pedal loop due to diabetes and other conditions can develop wounds, ulcers, or gangrene that don’t heal without restoring blood flow.

While not every person needs a pedal loop intervention, there are certain individuals for whom this type of intervention is extremely important in order to provide the best results, especially when the wounds don’t heal. Most notably, it is a procedure that not many interventionalists are comfortable performing due to the small diameter of these arteries.

Pain from uterine fibroids depends on their location, size, and the number of them present in the uterus.

Women who only have small fibroids may not feel any pain, while those with larger ones can experience severe discomfort.

Larger fibroids often cause pain by putting pressure on the surrounding organs. If you're struggling with severe fibroid pain, we urge you to consult a fibroid specialist for treatment options. If you have been suffering from any of the following:

- Muscle pain and cramping in the calf or thighs.
- Non-healing wounds on the toes and feet.
- Diabetic foot ulcers.
- Discomfort in feet and legs. This includes coldness, numbness, or a feeling of heaviness.
- Change in leg appearance—This can include hair loss, slow hair growth, a change in leg color, or excessively shiny skin.

You may be at risk for Peripheral Arterial Disease. Major incisions are no longer necessary or needed to treat this condition. This has created many benefits for the patient and health care system overall, including - minimally invasive-image guided options, less recovery, less pain, less cost, performed in an outpatient setting, therefore eliminating the need for the hospital, less hospital-induced infections, and increased convenience.
