🌍💜 Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day

This global event raises awareness, honors those we've lost, and calls for improved survival rates in the fight against one of the toughest cancers.

Did you know?

1 in 10 people with pancreatic cancer have an inherited mutation that can be passed down through families.

In families with one or more cases of pancreatic cancer (and few breast or ovarian cancer cases), a fault in the BRCA2 gene significantly increases pancreatic cancer risk.

In families with breast and ovarian cancer, a fault in the BRCA2 gene slightly increases pancreatic cancer risk.

If you have a first-degree relative with pancreatic cancer, genetic testing is crucial. A positive result means close relatives should seek genetic counseling and testing to enable early monitoring and enhanced screening—vital tools for prevention and early detection.

You can take action today. Get tested with My Precious Genes and empower yourself and your loved ones with the knowledge to make informed health decisions.

Let’s spread awareness and work toward better prevention and survival rates. Together, we can make a difference. 💜

World Down Syndrome Day raises awareness of Trisomy 21, the genetic anomaly underlying Down Syndrome. Trisomy 21 occurs when an individual has three copies of chromosome 21 instead of the typical two, shaping unique characteristics and abilities. Each year over 6000 babies are born with Down Syndrome in the United States (CDC), making it the most diagnosed chromosomal condition. In honor of the 2024 slogan for World Down Syndrome Day, “End Stereotypes,” let's challenge misconceptions and promote awareness about Trisomy 21. My Precious Genes (https://loom.ly/gj4Q8ZE) celebrates the diverse strengths and talents of individuals with Down Syndrome. Genetic testing and counseling provide valuable insights into the genetic basis of the condition, aiding in early detection, informed decision-making, and personalized care — this is what My Precious Genes (https://loom.ly/gj4Q8ZE) is here for! Together, let's create a world that empowers everyone with access to informed and personalized healthcare!

March is Trisomy Awareness Month! According to the March of Dimes, 1 in 150 babies are born with a chromosomal condition. One of these conditions can be trisomy — where there is an improper replication, resulting in three chromosomes in some or all cells, rather than the standard two. This Trisomy Awareness Month, we at My Precious Genes want to raise awareness regarding the health problems and challenges those with trisomy face, as it sheds light on potential risks for both parents and children. For example, 95% of infants born with Trisomy 18 die within a year of birth (Witters). For Trisomy 13 conceptions, there is a fetal loss rate of 97% (Witters). Other trisomy conditions lead to either health or developmental problems. Through purposeful prenatal testing and genetic counseling, we can enable early detection and comprehensive care to help parents better navigate potential risks. This Heart Failure (HF) Awareness Week, let's shine a spotlight on the importance of genetic testing and screening, especially when access can be limited for many communities. For example, Black Americans are 30% more likely to develop heart failure, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services. Despite this, Black and Hispanic patients are less likely to be offered genetic testing for HF etiology (Journal of the American College of Cardiology), suggesting that while such preventative care is available, it is not always an option. We here at My Precious Genes want to change that. Start taking proactive steps towards heart health for yourself and your community and schedule an appointment today at mypreciousgenes.com.

Join us in recognizing Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Week! Did you know that CHD is the most common birth defect, affecting nearly 40,000 infants born in the US every year? That's one child every 15 minutes. At My Precious Genes, we're committed to empowering individuals and families impacted by CHD through personalized, gene-based approaches. Conditions like Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) (https://loom.ly/dGGq3vg) and Congenital Long QT syndrome (https://loom.ly/cq2CsFY) can be outcomes potentially caused by genetic changes. Despite these challenges, 85% of babies with CHD survive to adulthood. However, they may face complications like developmental delays, heart rhythm issues, and increased stroke risk. Early detection and intervention significantly improve CHD outcomes, emphasizing the importance of genetic testing and counseling. Learn more about your risk and schedule an appointment with us today at www.mypreciousgenes.com.
