If you have ever applied to Hope House, chances are the first friendly voice you heard was our Intake Coordinator, DeAnna Walden. DeAnna is in long-term recovery, with over 8 years free from mind-altering substances, and her journey continues to inspire the women and families we serve.

Because of recovery, DeAnna gets to be a dependable worker, a present wife, a loving friend, and a daughter who can care for her 87-year-old mother. At Hope House, she uses her story to remind women that transformation is possible.

Every day, she watches women arrive in hopelessness and grow into mothers, friends, and community members who know their worth. Her hopeful message to anyone starting out is simple but powerful:

"Recovery is possible no matter what the circumstances. Trust the process, even when things get hard."

We are grateful for DeAnna, not only for the work she does but for the light she shines on the path to recovery.

There are so many myths about recovery that can make it harder for families and friends to know how to help. Let’s clear a few of them up:

❌ Myth: People just need more willpower.
✅ Fact: Recovery takes support, treatment, and new tools to heal.

❌ Myth: Being supportive is the same as enabling.
✅ Fact: Showing up in healthy ways makes a real difference.

❌ Myth: Someone has to “hit rock bottom” before recovery.
✅ Fact: Recovery can begin anytime. Waiting can be dangerous.

❌ Myth: Treatment fixes everything.
✅ Fact: Treatment is the starting line, not the finish.

At Hope House, we know recovery is real and it’s possible. Every day, we see women and families building new lives filled with hope, dignity, and self-sufficiency. 💜

We’re making the switch!

Hope House is officially moving most of our online donation needs from Amazon to Walmart. Walmart’s prices are lower on many of the everyday essentials we need. When you’re outfitting 42 apartments and supporting dozens of families, every dollar matters!

We’ll still keep our Amazon list active if that’s your preference, but from now on, our Walmart Registry will be the main way we share our needs.

Your donations have real impact and this change helps us stretch your generosity even further.

Thank you for continuing to show up for the women and children of Hope House.

At Hope House, we see this kind of heroism all the time. It’s in the donors who step up when we need towels or toilet paper. It’s in the people who give quietly and consistently, month after month. It’s in the ones who read a post like this and think, “I can help.”

You remind us that we are not alone in this work. Because of you, women and children are finding safety, healing, and a chance to begin again.

If you have ever given to Hope House, whether it was five dollars or your gently used baby stroller, thank you. You are making a real difference.

“The healing is in the return…”
At Hope House, we know that recovery isn’t about never struggling—it’s about finding the courage to come back. Healing happens in the return, in the choice to try again, in the moment someone says, “I’m scared, but I’m ready.”

That’s where our work begins.

Room for Two!

Two new Hope House families just arrived! Both with a brand-new baby and a busy toddler. A sturdy double stroller would make everyday life (doctor visits, childcare runs, grocery trips) so much easier.

Have a gently-used stroller your own kiddos have outgrown?

Tandem or side-by-side models that safely fit an infant (car-seat adapter) and a toddler (up to ~40 lbs).

Must be clean, fully functional, and free of recalls, major tears or broken parts.

How to donate:

1. Snap a quick photo of the stroller.

2. Email it to donations@hopehouseaugusta.org so we can be sure it meets the families’ needs.

3. We’ll schedule an easy drop-off time for you.

No stroller on hand but still want to help? A monetary gift lets us purchase one quickly.
➡️ Visit hopehouseaugusta.org/donate-now and, in the “Leave a comment” box, write “Stroller Fund.”

Your lightly-loved gear, or a few dollars toward a new set of wheels, will give two moms the freedom to move through their day with confidence (and one less juggling act). 💜

Thank you for always rolling with us!
