Today starts American / National Heart Month!

Abby was born with 3 Congenial Heart Defects or CHDs and we didn't even know it because no one would preform a routine EKG on her until she was 16. We had repeatedly gone to the doctor about her heart and finally an ER doctor listened.

Then we found out she had Wolffe Parkinson White syndrome, a PFO or hole in her heart and Brugada syndrome which her father and his mother have as well.

This is something I am PASSIONATE about. EVERY CHILD should have an EKG done as part of the routine office visits as a child and I will fight for this until it happens. I spoke about with NC legislators when I was in DC last June and will continue until it becomes a preventative test. There are so many children walking around with CHD and they don't know they have it.

❤️ CHD is a hard journey but also can be rewarding! We thank God daily that we found out about Abby before something happened. She has had an ablation for the WPW and she has a Loop Recorder implanted to monitor for her Brugada. The doctor left her PFO untouched because it isn't causing any problems. ❤️

Friday February 7th is wear red day for a Heart Warrior and Abby's 19th Birthday! Our family will red for our Heart Warrior! If you know someone who fights CHD wear red in honor of them on Friday and if you wear it for Abby please send me a picture so I can see all the people who honor her and her journey ❤️

I'm at a complete loss for words...

1 year ago we were strolling through the Milwaukee Museum laughing and having such a great time. You were telling Abby about how she knew such random animal facts and giving us the delicious carrot cake cupcakes that you made, even though you couldn't eat them. You were such a ray of sunshine and made such an impact on both Abby and me. That day was my favorite day in Wisconsin and I had such hope for both you girls.

You did it all right. You had the MALS surgery and was doing great. You got the feeding tube out and got to go to college until you didn't.

That is what I hate so much about these vascular compressions! The relapses or complications they cause.

Our healthcare system is broken!!! They should have helped you not just watch fade away.
You should be living your best life and going to all the ZB concerts you could. Your bakery should be open for business.

You have touched our lives and we will never be the same. You were full of light, an inspiration and precious. You will not be forgotten and we will fight this fight in your honor.

Today you are free from all the pain and suffering. You can eat whatever you want and not worry about throwing it up. You got to spend your first day with Jesus. Here on earth we are extremely sad not to have you here with us but know you are finally at peace. Until we see you again in heaven....
