Silver Lining Counseling and Mediation, LLC provides counseling, mediation, parenting coordination, and custody evaluations by appointment only. Counseling
Our counselors are licensed healthcare professionals who work with individuals (children, teens, and adults), couples, families, and groups who are experiencing or dealing with cognitive, emotional, or behavioral problems. Our areas of experti
se include anger management, domestic violence, substance abuse and addiction, ADHD, personality disorders, eating disorders, anxiety, stress, self-esteem, trauma, bereavement, depression, specialized fears, and relationship-based strain, such as between spouses or family members, including separation, divorce, and post-divorce-related matters, parental alienation, and reunification. Mediation
Mediation is a non-adversarial process in which our mediators encourage and help disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediators' recommendations are not binding on the parties unless the parties enter into a settlement agreement incorporating the recommendations. Mediation promotes a non-adversarial process that may be best for parties with ongoing or continuing relationships. Parties control the outcome of their case, and mediation provides more options for a win/win solution. The easier question is what should not be mediated. Generally speaking, cases that require a ruling on a question of law, a constitutional interpretation, or some involving domestic violence, are better left to the courts. That means most cases can be settled in mediation. These include but not limited to personal injury, real estate, employment, family and divorce, contract, construction, probate, juvenile offenses, felony offenses, misdemeanor complaints, and medical malpractice.

Parenting Coordination
Parenting coordination is a type of dispute resolution intervention that manages a wide range of ongoing issues in high-conflict custody and visitation cases. Our parenting coordinators meet with both parties regularly, receive day-to-day questions or complaints about any aspect of a party's conduct, make recommendations to the parties, and can help develop a parenting plan. In addition, the parenting coordinator provides education about co-parenting, parental communication, and conflict management strategies. In general, the parenting coordinator promotes effective post-separation parenting and can help reduce the negative effects of separation on children. The cost of parenting coordination is usually divided between parties. Custody Evaluation
Custody Evaluators are neutral examiners who determine the best interests of the child. When parents are unable to resolve issues on their own, child custody evaluations, sometimes known as "best interests" evaluations, are issued to provide the court with recommendations to guide its decisions on child custody and visitation. Custody evaluation services can include: evaluating potential risks to the child, mediating custody/visitation between parents, supervising visitations when necessary and determining appropriateness of grandparent visitation when parents object, assessing parent-child conflict areas to propose remediation plans; determining the potential impact of termination of parental rights, screen potential foster parents and/or adoptive parents. Evaluations may be voluntary or court-ordered.
