29/01/2025

As we step into the Year of the Snake, Chinese astrology reminds us of the wisdom, transformation, and healing associated with this mysterious creature. The snake symbolizes renewal, shedding the old to embrace the new, and aligning our lives with deeper balance and purpose.

The snake’s shedding resonates with the Five Elements Theory in Chinese medicine, which emphasizes the natural cycles of growth, decline, and renewal. This year invites us to focus on personal transformation by balancing our internal energy (Qi) and addressing imbalances that may hold us back.

The snake year encourages us to:
🐍Release stagnant Qi: Just as the snake sheds its skin, acupuncture can help us release stuck energy, improve circulation, and create space for renewal.
🐍Nurture our Kidney energy* The snake is often associated with the Water element, which governs the Kidneys in Chinese medicine. Supporting Kidney health with acupuncture and lifestyle changes can improve vitality, adaptability, and emotional resilience.
🐍Embrace stillness and reflection The snake’s quiet, watchful nature reminds us of the importance of slowing down, conserving energy, and cultivating inner peace. Acupuncture, paired with mindfulness or meditation, is an excellent tool for fostering this balance.

During this transformative year, consider using acupuncture to:
1️⃣Restore Balance: Seasonal acupuncture treatments can align your body with the natural rhythms of the year, ensuring your Qi flows freely.
2️⃣Support Emotional Well-Being: The snake invites introspection. Acupuncture can address stress, anxiety, and emotional blockages, helping you feel more centered.
3️⃣Boost Vitality: Targeting key meridians like the Kidney and Liver channels can revitalize energy and strengthen your foundation for the year ahead.

The Year of the Snake is a powerful reminder to pause, heal, and transform. With the help of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, you can harmonize your body, mind, and spirit to align with the energy of this transformative year. Let’s embrace 2025 as a year of growth, wisdom, and renewal—one needle and one breath at a time.

Happy Year of the Snake! 🐍

Today we celebrate Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Day!

As a nationally board certified and state licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist in the states of New Jersey and New York specializing in Women’s menstruation disorders, hormonal imbalance and fertility, I love what I do!

Erin’s story:

After suffering from amenorrhea and irregular menstrual cycles that resulted in significant pain and erratic bleeding for over 10 years that no therapy could seem to rectify, I was reluctant to proceed with the aggressive treatment plans being recommended to me.  After embarking on a holistic endeavor of weekly acupuncture treatments, herbs and diet adjustments, I quickly experienced, first hand, the beauty,  elegance and power of this medicine.

My own experience was so profound and results so impressive that I felt compelled to follow my heart and achieved a Doctorate in Chinese Medicine in order to help as many women as I can who are also frustrated with stubborn health issues. EKAH specializes in treating the root causes to menstrual irregularities, hormonal imbalances and fertility issues.

Erin’s own frustrations have been channeled into EKAH”s mission:

To bring relief and hope back to as many people as possible that have been told, “there is no hope” or “we’ve tried everything and there is nothing else we can do” or that the only options are harsh medications and surgery.  Erin believes in and respects that we all have a healing intelligence that is powerful but that many people have lost touch with this power.  She works with each patient to help them reconnect to their own inner healing wisdom and to help people live their lives with less or no pain and rekindle their joy and to live life with meaning.

Benefits of Acupuncture for Treating Chronic Pain

Acupuncture stimulates the central nervous system, releasing chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may promote the body’s natural healing abilities and increase physical and emotional well-being.

Acupuncture can stimulate the production of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. It can also affect the activity of adenosine, an amino acid that becomes active in the skin after an injury to ease pain. Furthermore, acupuncture has been shown to reduce inflammation and promote blood flow, contributing to its analgesic effects.

Chronic Pain Management
Studies show that acupuncture is effective for chronic pain conditions, such as osteoarthritis, headaches, and musculoskeletal pain and acupuncture significantly reduced chronic pain intensity and improved quality of life.

One of the significant advantages of acupuncture is its potential for long-term pain relief. This long-lasting effect is particularly valuable for individuals seeking alternatives to long-term medication use, which can have adverse side effects and risks.

Beyond Pain Relief
While pain relief is a primary benefit, acupuncture offers a range of holistic advantages that contribute to overall well-being. Many patients report improvements in sleep quality, mood, and stress levels.

Chronic pain often leads to decreased mobility and function. Acupuncture can help restore physical function by reducing pain and improving circulation.

As research continues to validate its effectiveness, more people are discovering the benefits of this ancient practice. Acupuncture offers a holistic, drug-free approach to pain management, addressing not just the symptoms but the underlying imbalances in the body.
As you consider your options for managing chronic pain, ask yourself: Could acupuncture be the key to unlocking a pain-free, balanced life? Whether you’re seeking relief from long-standing pain or exploring new paths to wellness, acupuncture may hold the answer.

Have some questions about Acupuncture? Let’s answer a few common ones.

🌺What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an effective form of health care that has evolved into a complete and holistic medical system. Practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese medicine have used this noninvasive medical system to diagnose and help millions of people get well and stay healthy.

An acupuncturist will place fine, sterile needles at specific acupoints on the body. This activates the body’s Qi and promotes natural healing by enhancing recuperative power, immunity and physical and emotional health. It also can improve overall function and well-being. It is a safe, painless and effective way to treat a wide variety of medical problems.

🌺What happens during a session?

During the initial exam a full health history will be taken. Questions will be asked regarding symptoms, health and lifestyle. Your acupuncturist also may check pulses and your tongue and may conduct a physical exam. This information is then organized to create a complete, accurate and comprehensive diagnosis of where Qi has become blocked or imbalanced. After the interview process, you may receive an acupuncture treatment. Visits with your acupuncturist may last from thirty to ninety minutes.

🌺How should I prepare?

📍Write down and bring any questions you have. We are here to help you.
📍Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to acupuncture points.
Do not eat large meals just before or after your visit.
📍Refrain from overexertion, working out, drugs or alcohol for up to six hours after the visit.
📍Avoid stressful situations.
Make time to relax, and be sure to get plenty of rest.
📍Between visits, take notes of any changes that may have occurred, such as the alleviation of pain, pain moving to other areas, or changes in the frequency and type of problems.

“I am so grateful I found Erin. I went to Erin after feeling really discouraged after doctors told me I wouldn’t get pregnant without assisted reproductive technology due to a diminished ovarian reserve. Instead of taking the ART route I wanted to try to get pregnant naturally still. I read great things about acupuncture and Erin. Erin was amazing, she started with a thorough health intake and came up with a personalized plan for me. Erin was extremely knowledgeable. I loved going to weekly appointments because not only was it relaxing but Erin’s positive energy was contagious. Well, I got pregnant within 3 cycles and now I’m sitting here with my two month old. Don’t think twice about seeing Erin!” -Leanne

Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting millions of women worldwide, characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. This can lead to severe pain, heavy menstrual periods, and fertility issues.

How Acupuncture Helps with Endometriosis
1️⃣Pain Relief
🌸Reduction of Inflammation: Acupuncture can reduce inflammation, which is a key factor in endometriosis pain. By targeting specific points, acupuncture can help decrease inflammatory markers in the body.
🌸Release of Endorphins: Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. This can provide immediate relief from the chronic pain associated with endometriosis.

2️⃣Hormonal Balance
🌸Regulation of Menstrual Cycles: Acupuncture can help regulate menstrual cycles by influencing hormonal pathways. This can lead to more regular periods and reduce the severity of symptoms.
🌸Reduction of Estrogen Levels: High estrogen levels can exacerbate endometriosis. Acupuncture can help balance hormones, potentially lowering estrogen levels and reducing symptoms.

3️⃣Improved Blood Flow
🌸Enhanced Circulation: Acupuncture improves blood flow to the pelvic area, promoting healing and reducing the stagnation that can contribute to endometriosis pain and growth.
🌸Reduction of Scar Tissue: Better blood flow can also help in the reduction of scar tissue and adhesions, which are common in endometriosis.

4️⃣Stress Reduction
🌸Lowering Cortisol Levels: Chronic stress can worsen endometriosis symptoms. Acupuncture has been shown to reduce cortisol levels, helping manage stress and its impact on the condition.
🌸Promotion of Relaxation: Acupuncture sessions promote overall relaxation, which can improve mental health and reduce the perception of pain.

5️⃣Immune System Support
🌸Boosting Immunity: Acupuncture can help strengthen the immune system, which may play a role in controlling the abnormal tissue growth seen in endometriosis.
🌸Reduction of Autoimmune Responses: Some theories suggest that endometriosis may have an autoimmune component. Acupuncture can help modulate the immune response, potentially reducing symptoms.

How does Acupuncture actually work?

Acupuncture, developed in China over 2500 years ago, is the insertion of fine, sterile needles into anatomically defined points on the body that stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms.

Acu-points correspond to areas on the body that have been shown to have greater electrical conductance due to the presence of a higher density of gap junctions along cell borders1.

🌸Some benefits:

🌸A reduction in stress or anxiety. Acupuncture is incredibly calming, and when you get acupuncture on a regular basis, that feeling of peace and well-being tends to become your new norm.

🌸You don’t get sick as often. Acupuncture boosts the immune system, and patients who come consistently often comment on having lesser colds and illnesses throughout the year.

🌸Better sleep. I’ve had some of the best night’s sleep of my life after a session. It promotes a deep, restorative sleep that can’t be matched by anything else I have tried.

🌸Less painful periods. When the blood and energy of the body flows as it should, pain and stiffness disappear. Acupuncture moves the blood, lessening cramps and even alleviating the symptoms of PMS.

🌸Happier digestion. Again, acupuncture is moving, so it creates movement within the digestive tract too. If you are prone to constipation, this medicine can get you unstuck. And if you fall on the other end of the spectrum and suffer from frequent or loose bowel movement, acupuncture can help to regulate that as well.

🌸More energy. When your body is in balance, you have the appropriate amount of energy to get through your day without dragging.

🌸Better relationships. I know it sounds strange, but hear me out. Acupuncture helps to regulate the emotions. It can vent your anger, ease your grief and help you to let go of negativity you’ve been holding on to.
