Beautiful Beginnings Birth Services A doula is a trained childbirth professional who provides emotional, physical, & educational support to a mother during pregnancy, labor, & postpartum.

Doulas have been around as long as women have been having babies. Women helping women in childbirth is nothing new, but the official title of 'Birth Doula' or 'Labor Doula' is. The term was made popular by Penny Simkin and her fellow founders of the DONA International doula training organization around 20 years ago. Doulas are trained in all measures of non-medical comfort measures and pain manage

ment for women in labor. I, personally, am trained in hands-on methods of pain relief such as massage, counter pressure, and coached breathing. As a doula, I am also trained in helping mothers set up their birth plans, working through their fears surrounding childbirth, and helping them find all the information they need to make informed decisions long before that first contraction hits. My services are priced at $450, but I am more than willing to work with mothers of a lower income level to set up payment plans or find a price that is better suited to their needs. I have a military discount, so if you're a military spouse, or a member of the military yourself, my services will come to you for only $300. My basic services include:

Free interview
2 prenatal visits
Basic Childbirth Education and referrals to Childbirth Education Classes
Continuous Support During Labor and for 1-2 hours afterwards in the hospital
Birth Photography
1 Postpartum Visit
4 weeks on call after delivery for any help with any problem you may have. Additional prenatal visits, postpartum care, cloth diapering education, etc. can be added to your contract for an additional fee. If you have any questions at all, feel free to message me anytime, or call me anytime between 9:00am and 6:00pm, 7 days a week.

Madelaine Austin is having her first baby, and had planned to give birth at Stephens County Hospital in northeast Georgia, just five minutes from her home.

Congratulations Alissa & Chris 🥰 Thank you for letting me be a part of your day!

Pregnant or got a fresh new baby?

Measure input, by output - plus check for swallowing, baby being settled between feeds, regaining birthweight in 10-14 days, active feeding.

If you're worried, contact your LMC/midwife or a breastfeeding supporter/helper or lactation consultant.

The umbilical cord drops off a baby's belly button after birth. What happens on the inside is far more fascinating.

There seems to be a belief that doulas are some sort of shaman, hell bent on natural births and using their spirit sticks to block the anaesthetist from the door. At the very least it’s assumed they’ll make you eat your placenta.

It’s simply not true. Doulas are there to support mums - and dads - in all kinds of births.

A right royal amount of sneering has accompanied the news that Meghan Markle will have a doula at the birth of her first child. How very ‘new age’, how very ‘LA’, how very ‘Meghan’.

Live like a princess, hire a doula 😉

**DID YOU KNOW?**
Studies show that women who alternate laying and being upright in labor actually have labors that are 50% faster than women who lay in the bed the whole time?! 🙀WHOA.
If you feel like your labor is moving slower than you’d like, or you’re considering an intervention to help speed it up, you can always try movement and getting upright! 🚶🏽‍♀️
This is a favorite position of many of our clients. It is like a hands and knees position, but you’re totally supported and comfortable. Lean over the back of the hospital bed with the head of the bed raised. Add a pillow or two for comfort under your head and knees. 🛏
You can still be connected to the monitors, your back is exposed for a back rub (ahem, looking at you, partner!), you aren’t holding up too much of your own weight, and gravity is on your side! 🙌🏼
This fantastic and beautiful couple did an amazing job, and their birth story is on our blog!!! http://www.thrivebirth.org/blog/2018/1/16/delmarva-community-birth-stories-the-birth-of-jude-thomas
Do you want to share your birth story on our blog?? We’d love it! Shoot us a message and we’ll work it out ☺️
