Christmas is in full swing at Tennessee State Veterans’ Homes – Humboldt!

Our halls are filled with holiday cheer as residents got creative building gingerbread houses and decorating Christmas trees. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any more magical…

Santa himself stopped by! Our very own resident, Mr. John Huffman, suited up and brought the joy. While he’s usually known for his grumpy side, the moment we asked him to play Santa, he absolutely lit up. Santa isn’t new to Mr. Huffman — it’s a role he played long before coming to Humboldt, and he even had his own suit ready to go!

Seeing the smiles, laughter, and Christmas spirit shared made the day unforgettable. This is what the holidays are all about — joy, memories, and a little magic.

A Record-Breaking Honor for Tennessee State Veterans Homes!

Tennessee State Veterans Homes is proud to celebrate a major achievement in the Tennessean Best of Music City Awards — winning Overall Leadership and being named a Finalist in the Nursing Home and Best Place to Work categories.

This is the first time our organization has been nominated in all categories for Best of Music City. These recognitions bring our 2025 total number of awards for the organization to a record-breaking 20 — the most in our history. The awards have been a mixture of readers’ choice awards, a Newsweek award, and a national award.

This milestone reflects the unwavering dedication, compassion, and excellence of our team as we proudly serve Tennessee’s veterans every day.

Success Story Spotlight – Clarksville Therapy Department!

We are thrilled to celebrate another amazing achievement from our Clarksville Therapy team!

Our wonderful resident, Mrs. Christian, has officially completed her physical therapy program and is doing exceptionally well. Her hard work, determination, and positive spirit have led to a successful discharge from our facility!

We are so proud of her progress and grateful for the dedication of our therapy staff who supported her every step of the way.

Congratulations, Mrs. Christian! We wish you continued strength, independence, and joy on your journey forward.

It is the Tennessee Volunteers' football Homecoming, and we, at TSVH, were honored to partner with the university, Tennessee Department of Veterans Services, and the VA to host a Town Hall Meeting on campus for all local veterans earlier this week. Our very own Executive Director, Ed Harries, was featured on the discussion panel, educating attendees about the phenomenal care we provide our residents state-wide. Read more here:

UT’s Veterans Success Center, in partnership with community veteran services, hosted its inaugural Veteran Town Hall on Nov. 13, 2025.

William “Dave” Bradley was born on April 20, 1939, in Hickman, Kentucky, to Noble and Sue Bradley. After graduating high school, he attended Thomas Nelson Community College, where he completed a course in diesel engine technology. He worked for Commercial Transport Corporation, an oil company, specializing in marine diesel engines. When he was not drafted during the Vietnam era, his strong sense of duty led him to volunteer for the U.S. Army in 1959.

Bradley served an outstanding 22 years in the Army, flying more than 5,000 hours—including over 1,500 hours of combat flight—and rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. He completed the Aircraft Maintenance Advanced NCO Course and became a highly skilled crew chief. His combat service included the Vietnam Defense, Vietnam Counteroffensive Phases I, II, V, and VI, the Tet ’69 Counteroffensive, and the Vietnam Summer–Fall Campaign of 1969.

Bradley was the second Huey helicopter to land in the infamous Ia Drang Valley. Though ordered to stay aboard because his mechanical skills were too valuable to risk, he leapt out to help load the wounded after seeing another crew chief doing the same. His unit’s experiences became the basis for the film We Were Soldiers starring Mel Gibson. In 2002, after the film aired, Bradley was awarded another Bronze Star for bravery at Fort Campbell. He later remarked that the movie was “very realistic and true to the Vietnam experience.”

Following his Vietnam tours, Bradley continued serving as chief of quality control for the U.S. Army Executive Flight Detachment at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he traveled extensively with Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford and even flew in convoy with President John F. Kennedy.

After retiring from the Army, Bradley worked as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) for seven years before serving another seven years as the veteran’s service officer for Weakley County. He is the proud father of three children: Ivan, Natalie, and Lori.

Bradley received excellent care from our Humboldt facility, though he passed from this world on October 2nd. Please help us take this time to commemorate his tremendous service to our country.

Honoring Our Heroes at the Tennessee State Veterans Home
�This week we celebrated our former service-member residents with a very special ceremony. We marked the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps and honored the rich legacy of all our veterans.

One beautiful tradition: the oldest and youngest guests in the room shared a piece of cake – a meaningful symbol of generations bound by service.
�We also spotlighted resident-artist Joel Murray and his drawing “Reflections,” which draws a parallel between current service-members and those who came before in WWII – such a powerful tribute.
�Veteran-author Andy Vistrand was in attendance and shared his book Rescued, a story of life, service and healing.

To all our veterans, thank you for your sacrifice and dedication. Your stories inspire us and your legacy strengthens our community.

A few of our Murfreesboro and Clarksville veteran residents had the honor of attending the Governor’s Veterans Day Program.

Not only did they enjoy the speakers, they, being among the only Vietnam Veterans in house, received a standing ovation of recognition.

Ending the amazing experience were handshakes and a few laughs with Governor Lee, TDVS Commissioner Baker, and many others.

Thank you to Tennessee Department of Veterans Services for extending the invitation to our grateful crew.
