Hey y'all! Here's another clip from a recent board session. I was able to hold the pop rod after my feet cut. Well, I was able to hold it for a fraction of second. I was pleased with that though! You will also get to see how small the right foot (and only foot) for the move to the Patagonia Rosewood hold is.

"Bro Day" Training: Shoulders and Arms!!

Hey y'all! Here is another fun workout session.

This is the "Bro Day" in my current weekly setup. I train upper body on Day One, Lower Body on Day Two, and "Bro Day" on Day Three. Day Four will be off, then Upper Body on Day Five, Lower Body on Day Six and Day Seven is off.

"Bro Day" is just a fun way to refer to training shoulders and arms. I'll work all the angles for each muscle group.

Switching Things Up: New Lower Body and Ab Workout

Hey y'all! Time for another workout. This is the second session after ending my fat loss phase, and first lower body session.

I'm trying a 5 day workout split. It consists of 2 upper and 2 lower body workouts. The 5th day is Shoulders and Arms. Hopefully, it will lead to building muscle and strength! I enjoy experimenting with things and seeing what works and what doesn't. Hope you enjoy following this process.

The Truth About NOS3 and Cardiovascular Health

Hey y'all! We have more genetics and gene SNPs to discuss. Today let's talk about NOS3.

We've discussed Nitric Oxide before. NOS3 is involved with the production of Nitric Oxide when it is functioning properly. When it is malfunctioning, it tends to produce superoxide instead. Superoxide is not so super! It's a free radical that we want to neutralize.

Are You Doing RDLs and Calf Raises Wrong?

Hey y'all! Do you struggle with RDLs (Romanian Deadlifts)? Calf Raises? I see many people performing these exercises incorrectly.

Calf raises seem to be a simple exercise and they are, but that doesn't mean that they can't be performed incorrectly. Many people roll onto the outside of their foot during this exercise. Why? Because it makes the exercise easier. BUT it is not the best way to get the results you want.

RDLs are more complex and often people put undue strain on their back. If performed correctly, we can strengthen our back, hips and hamstrings...basically the entire posterior chain.

First Look: New Climbing Holds & Footwork Challenge!

Hey y'all! It's time for another bouldering session on my home climbing wall. I was able to come up with a few new problems using the new black walnut slopers, undercling and jug from coqui climbing. If you're struggling on a climbing wall, don't be afraid to try different things (beta, etc) to improve your climbing.

The holds are amazing and I have had a blast climbing on them. All of the new holds from Coqui, Crux Forged, Bos Holds and SW holds have been wonderful. They definitely add a new look and some new dimensions to climbing on my board.

How To Design A Full Body(ish) Workout (Part 2)

Hey y'all! Time for another home workout! This is another full body workout. It doesn't train every muscle group, but it does hit some upper body exercises and lower body exercises. This session is designed to gain muscle/maintain muscle during a fat loss phase.

This session includes cable side raises, incline dumbbell presses, incline front raises, lying tricep extensions, 1 arm cable pushdowns, high to low cable crossovers, leg extensions, squats and forearm rockers...I think that's everything. This workout combined with the previous video definitely works the entire body!

About Healthy Design Functional Medicine

I’m a husband, father of three children, Physical Therapist with 15+ years of experience and Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. I have witnessed the effects that chronic pain, chronic gut issues, chronic stress, etc. has had on my patients and on my loved ones, especially my wife. I have also seen how the conventional medical route is unable to adequately address these problems and provide answers. I have seen the disappointment and sense of helplessness that this can cause. I am sure that you have experienced this too.

However, I always felt there was hope…a different way to address these problems. After all, I learned that the key to treating patients in Physical Therapy is to get to the root cause of the problem. Then the symptoms will take care of themselves. This is the same premise in Functional Medicine. I have seen the life transforming effect this can have on quality of life firsthand. My wife was having issues with chronic pain, fatigue, chronic stomach upset, etc. It was recommended that she have multiple MRIs but they did not show anything. She also tried a few different medications. Again, no change. Gradually we began to address her stomach issues and how each of her body systems functioned together as a whole. Only then, did she begin to notice a difference and now she is like her old self. This systematic approach has also improved the quality of life for people dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, hormonal issues, etc.

During my career, I have treated athletes looking to return to sport, patients that are trying to recover from neurological insults like a stroke, patients that are attempting to return to their prior level of function following surgery and many other conditions. My unique certifications include Functional Movement Techniques, IASTM Blades and Functional Movement Screen certified. I have also focused heavily on neurodynamics and the treatment of chronic pain. This led to an interest in staying abreast of new research regarding the role of the Immune System and Central Nervous System in pain. It also pointed out the important role that the Autonomic Nervous System and chronic systemic inflammation play in chronic illness.
